Standing firm against all odds Guarding the most sacred home We protect the realm of Gods Our destiny is carved in stone Odin One-Eye sat upon the mighty throne of Asgard, and smiled with pride for the say that had come at long last. His son, Thor the Thunderer, was to be named the Heir Apparent of Asgard, and he was to be crowned as the Lord-Regent as the Allfather approached the Odinsleep. The time was nigh, and the mightiest warrior in Asgard would have to be prepared to take over the ruling of the realm in the Allfather's stead. This was not just a recognition of Thor's achievements, but also a test of his merits. For one day, Odin would pass the Lordship of Asgard over entirely to his son, and Thor would have to responsibly use the cosmic power of the Odinforce. Today was not that day. The Odinforce would reside in its longtime master, as he slumbered for the good of his own body and that of Asgard itself. Thor approached his father with his usual smug sense of pride and self-assurance. He had earned the honor bestowed upon him, he had no doubt. He was the Thunder God, the Guardian of Asgard, the Mightiest Warrior. He was Thor. This was his fate, as the Norns had decreed it. You could not escape fate, that was something people of this realm well knew. He had an obligation to take the throne, so it went even beyond wanting it. But he did want it. He looked to Loki, and nodded his head, a gesture of respect. He would not have made it through many hard lessons without his brother there, he knew. Their relationship had been strained by differences in style and priorities, but he had never known Loki to be anything but good to him. He had fought valiantly in battle by Thor's side to the surprise of many. But Thor had always believed he had it in him to be a warrior. He also was a thinker, and more so than Thor. Thor was a man of actions, deeds and feats; Loki was a man of thoughts, words, and plans. But together, he knew Asgard was in good hands. They would be proper stewards of sgard, together. Odin should have acknowledged Loki's role in what would be a joint responsibility. But Thor could not make decisions for the One-Eye. Thor stood before Odin, and knelt down in respect. "Greetings, people of Asgard," He bellowed, looking about the great hall, to Thor, to Loki, to sigyn, and lastly to his wife and Thor's mother Frigga, who sat by his side, " Today is a glorious day, a day of celebration, and a day of historical import. Today I name my son, Thor the Thunderer, my heir, and the Lord-Regent of Asgard. Soon, I shall enter the Odinsleep, and Asgard will have need of a protector, a guardian. Thor shall be this steward, he has proven himself a mighty warrior, and with the power of Mjolnir in his hands...Asgard shall not fall"Thor looked up at his father and smiled. "You honor me, father," He said, an odd sensation of humility washing over him. There was a first time for everything, so they said. Thor was hardly known for humility, and it was not likely to last...

No day had ever found Loki more full of wrath.
Knowing what was due to happen on this day, he had awakened angry, had felt nothing but pure venom running through his veins as he dressed. He had avoided Sigyn as much as possible, just to keep from infecting her with his bad mood. It would be unfair, for he, not she, was the one burdened with this unreasonable, unfathomable rage.
He and his brother Thor had always been rivals. To outsiders and to Thor himself, it may have seemed like nothing more than friendly competition, the natural whim of brothers, but for Loki, it was much more than that. He had always known that Thor was Odin's preferred son. Thor had everything where Loki had nothing. Thor had Mjolnir, Thor had the love of all Asgard. Loki had never been given a personal weapon, and as far as Asgard was concerned, he was merely the weakling second son. He had never been able to match Thor, not in battle, not in popularity, not in their father's affection. The events that would transpire this day were only further proof of that, and all the hurt and frustration that being so long overlooked had caused was bubbling up to the surface. It took all of his willpower to keep it controlled.
While Sigyn was much better at helping him into his armor - since she often had to help him out of it - he had summoned a pair of servants to handle the task today. A good plan, since all he had done was snarl at them to hurry up. Once that was done, he had strode off to their wing's small practice room and spent a long time airing his frustrations on swordfighting dummies. After destroying several of those, he felt controlled enough to go through with the day.
There was a plan in effect, of course. When was there not? He had secretly made arrangements for a small group of Frost Giants to slip into Asgard and attempt to steal the powerful Casket of Ancient Winters. With the Casket, the Frost Giants could build a new society, and make a serious attempt at conquering the other realms. Their attempt at stealing the Casket would fail, of course. It was not part of Loki's plan that they should succeed. Though, if they somehow did, it would not affect his plans at all.
His only goal today was to put as much of a damper on the celebrations as he could manage. Thor was to be crowned regent this day, a burden that Loki did not envy. Loki did not wish to rule Asgard. Yet he knew he would, obliquely. He would be called upon when thought and wisdom were needed, and would be counted on to stop Thor from making foolish decisions based on a warrior's need for conflict. In essence, he would be Asgard's silent ruler, and for what? What recognition would be given him? None, just as always.
As Thor knelt before Odin, Loki watched from his position on Odin's right. Loki was in full armor, his horned helmet atop his head. Next to him stood Sigyn, the better half of his whole, the only person who could see the fury so neatly hidden behind a veneer of calm. He gave Thor a small, encouraging smile as his brother nodded at him. It would not be long before this entire farce was ground to a screeching halt.

Sigyn knew how tense, how unhappy and how angry Loki was, because he was avoiding her. The relationship with his brother was of a complicated nature. Loki had never managed to step out his brother's shadow. At least, he believed he had not. But it was him who believed he had to prove anything. Sigyn could not blame him, though. Odin obviously preferred the God of Thunder and so did the Asgardian people. Even though Loki might claim that he did not even want to be in Thor's place, he could not help but feel angry about it. She had known better than to push him to talk to her on this date. On the contrary. Sometimes it was better to let silence linger and give him his space. She had heard him snarl at the servants, she had heard him practice his sword-fighting. Yet Sigyn had not approached him. There was nothing she could do about it. If talking to him about his relationship with Thor for thousands of years had not helped to ease his mind, approaching him now would not do any good, either. So Sigyn did what she ought to do. She got dressed properly and headed for the great hall, where everybody had assembled to honor Thor. Her hands were folded in front of her body as she watched the ceremony. Every now and then she'd look at Loki. He looked positively dashing in his festive armor. His body language and face however, gave him away to her. She knew better than to fall for his lie. However, he was doing a great job disguising his true feelings about this. She would never ever tell anyone, of course. Her loyalty was with her husband. Sigyn herself faked utter, unburdened happiness about this day. And she did just as great of a job as Loki. Oh, how she wanted to take his hand and give it a gentle squeeze! Yet, she did not. She knew about the Frost Giants. She knew what was going on. That made her quite tense. She trusted Loki with his plan though. It'd be a matter of time until they'd be detected. For now, she was just standing there, being the princess she was, exchanging cheerful glances with Frigga. If the queen only knew. outfit

We are brothers of the north Who are sharing the all father's blood Marching down the left hand path We are spawned by Asagods 'Cause we are the Guardians of Asgard The Warriors Three, Sif, Loki, Sigyn, Frigga, Baldr, the whole of the Asgardian realms had come to this event. It was the culmination of ages spent in preparation, in training, and in campaigning against Asgard's enemies. Odin had named Thor his heir, all that remained was the swearing of oaths. Easy, really. They were the oaths Thor had memorized years ago. "Do you swear to guard the Nine Worlds?"" I do swear it," Thor said solemnly. "Do you swear to preserve the peace of Asgard?"" I do swear it.""Do you forsake selfish ambition, and vow to serve only the good of the realms?""I do swear it," He said, unaware that he would break the vow before much longer. He had no idea what was happening, the plan set in motion already. All he knew was that he was poised to take the throne of Asgard while the Allfather slumbered in his Odinsleep. "Upon this day, I proclaim-"The Allfather broke off suddenly. A raven had landed upon his shoulder, and had whispered grave tidings into his ear. There were intruders in the treasuries of Asgard. This would not do. He called out to an ancient artifact, the Destroyer, and commanded it to strike. Odin sa, even from his place in the throne room, what was the problem. "Frost Giants have intruded upon our sacred vaults..."Soon, the offending creatures were dead. The weapon forged so long ago had done its job. Odin motioned for his sons to follow him to the scene. The dead Jotunn lay at his feet, and there were also two slain Asgardian sentries. He grimaced. Thor seethed. The giants had been attempting to reclaim the Casket of Ancient Winters. Odin was glad it was nothing more than this, but his son seemed agitated they had dared to trespass here. "They must pay for this insult," Thor hissed. "They have," Odin insisted, "What more can be done? The Casket is safe." "But are we, when they can so easily tread where they will?" Thor asked, in a rage. "What do you suggest we do?""We attack, we sally forth into their realm, and decimate them. They must fear the wrath of Asgard.""Madness," Odin said, " Our realms are at truce.""A broken truce!" Thor shouted, before stomping off to brood in his favorite dining hall. He needed to vent, and he could see nothing in the room but a table. He turned it over, and yelled ferociously, littering the floor with food and dishes. He sat down, and entertained thoughts of slaughtering giants...

Plenty of practice in the art of lying paid off as Loki was successful in not rolling his eyes as Thor swore his oaths. That, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing Thor's moment would not last.
Interruption commences in three… two…
The sound of wings bursting into the room heralded the arrival of a raven, which took up a perch on the Allfather's shoulder and announced to him its news.
One.
Then they were rushing to the vault, wherein many artifacts of importance were kept. The Destroyer had seen to the end of the infiltration, as Loki had expected. He had meant no permanent harm by allowing the Jotunn to enter, and was mostly glad to see none had been done. There went the pleasantness of the day, flapping away on dark wings like the raven that had borne the news. Loki stood by, silent, as Thor and Odin argued.
Soon, their disagreement obvious, Thor stormed off, furious. Pretending to be uncertain, Loki glanced from Odin to Thor's retreating figure, then left himself, still without a word. He met Sigyn in the hallway; apparently, the gathering had dispersed. "They attempted to steal the Casket of Ancient Winters. It is safe," he explained hurriedly, for the benefit of anyone watching.
He led her to a dining hall, where he knew Thor would be. Indeed, there was his brother, sitting near a mess of food from a table he had flipped. With a barely noticeable flick of his hand, Loki motioned for Sigyn to wait, knowing she would be better off farther away in case Thor threw another tantrum. She was no weakling, of course, but Thor's might was considerable. It was probably unwise that Loki dared approach him, but the two were brothers. They knew each other well.
Loki sat down next to Thor, and nudged aside a runaway fruit. "You are right, brother," he said gently, knowing where his words would lead. "We are not safe as long as the Frost Giants have a way of stealing into our realm."
He paused, his face showing regret. "Yet I'm afraid there is nothing we can do to change it."

With every word Thor and Odin exchanged, Sigyn's heart started to beat faster. It was shared anticipation, because letting the Jotunn in had been Loki's doing, not hers. Yet Sigyn felt as if she was the one most excited about what was going to happen. She felt for her husband, thus she almost anxiously waited for the interruption to happen.
On the outside however, the goddess looked as calm and merry as everybody in the room did. Secretly, she wondered who was faking it, too, and who was truly happy for the God of Thunder to ascent. And then, the raven brought the news. The ceremony was interrupted, just like Loki had planned.
Upheaval quickly spread across the great hall, as Odin took his sons to the vault, about to assess the situation. Frigga and Sigyn left the hall and retreated in order to be safe should something dangerous happen. "By Odin, they have been waiting for this moment for so long. It saddens me that this is happening now. It saddens me this is happening at all,", the Queen confided in Sigyn, hooking her arm to hers. Sigyn put her hand on Frigga's as they were rushing to their chambers. "I am as disconsolate as you are, dearest Frigga. Worry not, you know they will take good care of the situation. All is not lost. The ceremony will be concluded sooner or later.", Sigyn tried to calm Frigga down. However, she did not want to hide with the Queen right now. So when they had arrived at the Queen's chambers, Sigyn stopped, before entering the rooms. "Forgive me, my Queen, but I cannot sit and wait for my husband. I need to check on him." "Sigyn, you should not put yourself in danger,..." Frigga said. "I will be fine," assured Sigyn, putting a kiss on the Queen's cheek, "I will see you soon." With that said, she left the Queen and rushed back. She found Loki in the hallway, as he was chasing after Thor. The God of Thunder seemed to be displeased. Her husband informed her about the situation. News that were not news at all. Sigyn put her hand to her sternum, sighed relievedly, "Those are truly good news, my lord." What a wonderful caricature of concern and relief. Sigyn acted flawlessly, even though it was all a lie. She followed Loki only to find Thor brooding, being angry. He had made a mess out of the whole room. Something that would not happen with Loki. The God of Thunder had a temper and occasionally, he was not able to control it. Sigyn waited a couple of feet away, but she felt like intruding a private situation. Of course, later, she'd learn about this conversation from Loki. Still, this was a brotherly situation and there was no place here for her. She tried to catch Loki's gaze in order to silently tell him about her departure, but her husband was not looking at her while talking to Thor. So Sigyn kept her gaze on him for as long as it took, remaining standing in safe distance for now. It's not like I were not able to take care of myself,... she thought.

We have faced our enemies A thousand times or even more Still they cannot make us kneel One thousand years of constant war
Thor's brooding had not gone unnoticed. He heard the soft footsteps of his brother behind him, and almost growled. No doubt Loki had come to gloat, now that his father looked upon the Thunderer with disfavor. Now that Thor's big day was ruined. No doubt Loki enjoyed all of this. He told himself he mustn't think that way, but it was easier said than done. "You are right, brother,"Thor was quite surprised to hear this from his brother. Loki would more likely tell him how he was being foolish; how he was mad to be so concerned over an isolated incident. Thor's face brightened, and he looked at his brother lovingly. He liked this new side of Loki, the one who didn't shy away from battle. It was the warrior inside that defined the Aesir gods. Loki had that warrior inside, even though he had taken the path of sorcery. It was in his nature, as it was in Thor's. They were brothers, after all. And friends, despite being rivals. "Glad someone sees the truth," Thor said, " The truth I see, plain as day.""We are not safe as long as the Frost Giants have a way of stealing into our realm.""The people of Asgard are in danger," Thor said agreeing with Loki. Or was Loki agreeing with him? It was all the same really. There was a credible threat to the peace of Asgard, and it was the Jotunn. All of them really, all the realms who dared oppose Asgard. From Laufey, to Surtr, to Hela, to Malekith...they all posed a danger to Asgard as long as they ruled their realms as enemies of Asgard. Even though none did so openly, the machinations had been evident these past few years. Even breaking out into small wars, such as the campaign into Muspelheim. "Yet I'm afraid there is nothing we can do to change it." "We can do anything, brother," Thor grinned, pride glowing in his sky blue eyes. He began to walk around the room, as he spoke. "We are the sons of Asgard," He intoned, " We are the sons of Odin.""We can make them fear us," Thor's plan was growing in his mind. They could go to Jotunheim and find answers. They could send a message that Asgard was not the playground of giants. That Asgard was strong. The Mighty Thor was strong. He nodded, knowing what must be done. " We can demand answers, from Laufey himself, brother!"

It was clear to Loki that Thor was in a foul mood. Just as well. Certainly, if he shared the vehemence of Thor's opinion, he would be as upset. But Loki cared not either way, as far as the Frost Giants were concerned. He knew the Jotunn had no way of getting into Asgard themselves, as it was he who had opened the portal and showed them the way.
He had to play the game, though. So he told Thor how he felt, which was not far from the truth. Had he not known what he knew, he might have agreed with Thor. Protecting Asgard was important to both of them. They simply had different ways of approaching that goal. And if Loki happened to think Thor's way - brute force - was the wrong way, well, then, he would have to find a way to circumvent it.
Loki looked up as Thor stood and began to pace. Thor was beginning to think. Of violence, no doubt. And when Thor nodded and announced his intentions, Loki knew his plan was shaping up just as he had conceived it.
"Oh no," Loki said, jumping to his feet. "No, no, no. We can't simply go riding into Jotunheim and expect Laufey to give us an audience. This is not a good plan."
"What is not a good plan?"
Loki's attention finally left Thor, where he noticed Sigyn trying to catch his eye. Behind her entered the Warriors Three and the Lady Sif, each greeting Sigyn as they entered, but not pausing to respect the brothers' privacy as she had. Volstagg, who had posed the question as they entered in his loud, booming voice, went straight to the table Thor had overturned.
"Every plan is a good plan," Volstagg continued, while looking down at the mess of food. "Such an unfortunate waste…."
"It is nothing," Loki hurried to say, knowing his words would be ignored as Thor went on to detail the plan. This was how it always was with them. Though Loki called the group his "friends," he had never truly bonded with them. They were Thor's friends, not his.
Loki gestured for Sigyn to join him, and wrapped an arm around her waist, appearing as though he were about to leave. Thor would want Loki to join them in Jotunheim, he knew. That, too, was part of the plan. They would go, they would get into a fight, and they would return, with Thor shown a fool for causing trouble in the first place. That would certainly make Odin think twice about leaving Thor to rule.

Thor was speaking of infiltrating Jotunheim. Of interrogating Laufey. Of course, Sigyn had never been to Jotunheim herself, had never met Laufey or any other Frost Giant, for that matter. But she did not think that Laufey would prepare a barrel of mead and a well-composed dining table for Thor, Loki, the warriors and the Lady Sif, sitting together, having a discussion about his actions.
No. This meant battle. Was it a smart idea? She was not so sure. It truly was Thor's way of dealing with issues like this. And perhaps, this was exactly what Loki had reckoned with. The brawn making the plans, plans void of tactics, plans voice of politics. Raw battle, the survial of the fittest. Sigyn pursed her lips. She was able to overhear their every word, even though she was not standing right next to them.
The Warriors Three and the Lady Sif entered, exchanging greetings with Sigyn. And then, Loki beckoned his wife to join them. Sigyn knew how weak the bonds were he shared with his brother's friends. Possibly, the God of Mischief needed her there. Sigyn was Loki's ally. Loki's friend, his wife. She'd have his back. Of course, this was not battle, not a competition and they were not children anymore. That didn't change the uneasy feeling the ignorance of the attending people created by walking all over Loki. A man who was their prince, after all. It was so sad how Thor never seemed to notice. Sigyn knew the God of Thunder loved his brother dearly, yet he did not seem to realize how much he was putting him down by his own actions and omitting to have Loki's back in front of the other's. Well, then Sigyn would do it. Over and over again.
She was at his side, putting her hand on his as she felt it on her hip. Of course, she was not really part of this group, yet she was not someone who'd be shut up easily, who'd keep her opinion to herself or who'd shy away from supporting Loki. Sigyn could only guess what'd happen if The Warriors Three would learn about this, if they had not arrived early enough to overhear Thor's plans. Maybe, they had not. For now, Loki tried to keep the information from them, so Sigyn would not be a bad sport and reveal the news. "Thor," she said calmly, locking her gaze with the God of Thunder. Was she reprimanding him? No, surely not. But having been a mother, Sigyn knew that a gaze and a word spoken softly, yet determinedly, could move mountains. The God of Thunder was stubborn, though. She did not expect him to change his mind just like that.

The giants look for any chance To bring down Asgard's mighty walls No matter what they send at us We will never let it fall Cause we are Guardians of Asgard!
"Oh no," Thor's heart sank, as his brother rejected his plan. Before even hearing him out. It was important, what he wanted to do. He had to strike in the name of Asgard! He growled as Loki continued to insinuate Thor's plan was not good enough. He was Thor the Thunderer! The plan would succeed simply for that fact! There was no one mightier than Thor Odinson, save the Allfather himself. And some had said that even the Allfather was ultimately going to be surpassed by Thor's power. But he knew nothing of that all that. It mattered not, anyway. No Jotunn was mightier than Thor, not even the King of Jotunn! He was sure of himself, and he knew what must be done. The Power of the Storm was his. He would bring a storm of vengeance to Jotunnheim, and return in triumph. Asgard would be safe. "No, no, no. We can't simply go riding into Jotunheim and expect Laufey to give us an audience. This is not a good plan." "What is not a good plan?"Thor's demeanor changed instantly. Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun had made their entrance. The Lady Sif as well. Thor let go of the anger he felt toward Loki for doubting him. His companions would take his side surely. Then Loki would see, it was the right course of action. Sif was likely to attempt to dissuade Thor, out of love and worry, but in the end she would not deny the warrior spirit that burned like fire in him. Nor would the Warriors Three. The call of adventure would be answered this day! "Every plan is a good plan,""Especially one that involves the Thunderer!" Thor boasted, while Volstagg assessed the situation with the overturned table. Thor had to agree, in hindsight. His rage would be better fed with the blood of giants, than the vandalism of feasting tables... "It is nothing,""My companions," Thor said to the assembled group, before being interrupted by Sigyn, who had also been present seemingly. She was rather good at sneaking about, Thor had to admit. Loki had taught her, perhaps. Or it was something they simply had in common. No matter. "Thor," "Sigyn," He said with undaunted determination in his gaze, "I have made up my mind about this."Sif, worried, made her move to protest , " This is madness, Thor. Your brother sees it, Sigyn sees it. I see it. Why must you defy the Allfather?" "I must, because it is my purpose to defend and avenge Asgard," Thor said, "Today the Jotunn have mocked Asgard, they have threatened us with mischief and illwill. We must have justice for this crime. We must have answers. How did they get past Heimdall's watchful gaze?""I sally forth to Jotunnheim," Thor declared, "Who will join me?""I will," Sif said, resigned. she looked to the Warriors Three, knowing they would want to join the misadventure, and sure enough they declared such in unison. "The Warriors Three join thee!" They shouted together, the glory of adventure tempting them into whatever follies Thor proposed. Even invading a realm of Frost Giants. Especially invading a realm of Frost Giants... Thor turned to Loki, and Sigyn, and smiled, "Well brother Loki, and sister Sigyn, what say you?"

The anger Thor displayed at Loki's rejection of his plan did not go unnoticed. This was just as he had planned it, so far. He needed to be innocent of all this, brought along only by his desire to protect Thor, or so it would seem.
The shift in Thor's demeanor did not miss Loki's attention either. The Warriors Three and Sif had entered, obviously. Even if Loki had not seen or expected their entrance, he would have been able to tell just by the look of joy on Thor's face. When had Thor last looked upon Loki with such happiness? Loki did not recall.
Even Sigyn was unable to dissuade Thor once Thor's friends appeared. That was for the best - for the plan, at least. Loki eyed the others as they all pledged their support for Thor.
Such simple minds, so easily manipulated! Everything was falling into place just as Loki wished it. They would journey to Jotunheim, Odin would stop them, seeing the folly in Thor's thinking, and reconsider giving Thor the throne. It was so easy, much too easy.
Thor turned to him with a smile, at last. Of course, it was a selfish smile, one full of hope that Loki would accede to Thor's plans. Loki took a moment to meet Sigyn's gaze, then looked up at Thor. "I will join you, brother," he said, a hint of reluctance and worry in his voice. It had to be this way, or else Thor and his friends would find themselves up against a horde of Jotunn. Loki's goal did not include anyone getting killed.
It was Sigyn's turn to answer now; it was known among those gathered that she could hold her own in battle, though she had not had the opportunity to do so. Her answer had little effect on the overall plan; though Loki preferred her to stay home so she would not risk getting hurt, he knew that would be insulting to say, and so he left the decision up to her. She was well aware of the plan, and how Loki expected it to go. If everything was timed correctly, there might not even be need for a battle.
But that was quite a risk.

This was working out exactly like her husband had planned. Did Sigyn like this idea? Did she agree on all the terms and the possible consequences. Not necessarily. But it did not matter. She would side with Loki anytime and if this was his decision, if this was the way he wanted it, then it should happen.
Of course, at the end of the day, she'd prefer her husband to be close to his brother in a thoroughly good way. But the root of their ambivalent relationship had been planted long before her time and the consequence of it was nothing she could have influenced. She hated the way The Warriors Three treated Loki and she hated how Thor never seemed to notice. She did not think the Thunderer did any of it with bad intentions and acted on an ill will towards his brother. But just because you were merely negligent about a bad deed did not mean you should not face some consequences. The outcome of Thor's way of dealing with his brother was Loki having turned as malicious as he was. Now, Thor would have to carry that burden. Of course, Sigyn's interest was more than piqued when she was asked to join them. She did not fight in battle often. Rarely, to say the least. But oh, she wanted to. Somehow, she envied the Lady Sif for her position, but not in a bad way. It was not Sif's fault Sigyn was who she was. "I'll gladly join you, brother in law. You and my husband, The Warriors Three and you, Sif.", Sigyn agreed, inclining her head as she was squeezing Loki's hand. "If that is your wish."
