Freia was not able to stand for such a long amount of time, with her body being so worn out and old. She was panting, pushing her hand on her sternum from distress and anxiety. Freia held herself at the bars, but she sunk down, until she hit the ground. Leaning against the bars, she endured his rant with a fiery glance in her eyes. The God of Mischief was truly wicked and actually, quite scary. Freia could not possibly fathom that he had been the good and gentle husband he had seemed to be, to Sigyn.
"Someone with a wickedness like yours cannot possibly be a good husband," she panted. Did she care whether he had done her daugther harm? Yes, she did. Freia wanted it to be her privilege. All worries were in vain anyway, for he was breaking her, locking her up, playing his malicious games with her.
What happened then was almost too much to take in. Loki continued his magic and within no time, he had bound her life to a...chamber pot? The idea was outrageous, yet Freia could only stare at what he had done. His insults were not reaching her, no. But the binding spell he had performed was getting to her. Freia sobbed in surprise, her panting increased. She held on to the bars tighter now, staring at the pot. She would not give him the satisfaction of begging him to undo it or cry openly in front of him. The woman was filled with so much hate, that hate would be the only thing leaving her lips. "He'll find me. He'll undo your doings. Just wait and see," She mumbled, "You attract tragedies like light attracts a moth. You might have your sons back. But something bad will happen soon enough. It is in your nature.", Freia threatened.

By now, Freia's words had no more effect on Loki. He was too aware of how well he had broken her, and too pleased with himself for having done so. She spoke of his wickedness, and he brushed it off like a simple bother.
"Perhaps I am not. Perhaps I am the worst husband and father in the history of husbands and fathers. That is between me and my wife." Sigyn had seen this side of him before, of course, though not in some time. "But I am a Frost Giant, and nothing more, am I not? Am I not wicked by nature? And what is this newfound concern for our marriage? It comes too little and too late."
The chamber pot produced its desired effect. He heard her sob, saw her staring. Though he continued to hurl insult after insult at her, he knew it was that object which would be her undoing. That was just fine by him. The methods mattered little, as long as it worked.
He smirked as she claimed her man would undo what Loki had done. "I welcome his attempt, for unless his power is equal with Loki's, the sorcerer who knows no equal, then he cannot undo any of my work," he pointed out confidently, still under the impression that her accomplice was some wannabe local sorcerer he cared not for.
"We have survived countless tragedies throughout our time together, Sigyn and I," he said, looking down at her as he leaned against the bars. "Whatever more there may be, we will face and win. Have you not noticed that together, we are unbeatable? No, I do not expect you to understand such a concept. You could have, if you had ever cared for Iwaldi. And perhaps you think you have found true love with this lover of yours. I can assure you that you have not.
"I will ask this once politely." He glared at her, his fingers slowly wrapping around one bar, as though he were preparing himself for something. "Who is your man?"

Freia barely heard his words. She kept on staring at the pot, the pot that was now her life, herself. Nothing but excrement. This did not hurt her pride, this erased it. Would her daughter agree to this? How mad was Sigyn? Freia only knew one kind of love towards your own child and it was not the nice version of it. In fact, her love had decreased and decreased over the years, consumed by envy and jealousy. She knew, Sigyn had felt differently towards her sons, yet it was mere knowledge, not an actual feeling.
Loki closed in on her, Freia felt her heartbeat increase. Yes, she was now truly scared of him. Freia winced, but she was too weak to shy away from the prince. Freia's eyes shone fiercly once more when he asked her this question. She was torn between keeping her composure - that was none at all anymore - and just telling him. Telling him what her alliance was constituted the last remnant of her pride and - so Freia believed - a real threat to Loki. "Surtur. Surtur, King of Muspelheim. He will come for you," an exhausted Freia spat into the prince's face. She did believe so. Surtur had promised her a lot. He would invade Asgard and he'd find her and make her the queen she deserved to be.

If Loki was wicked, then he was enjoying it. He had triumphed over this foe, this woman who had been so presumptuous as to curse his wife and children. He had a bit more in store for her, of course, for she would certainly not live out her days in this dungeon, hidden from the world. That would be too good for her. Especially once she informed her of who her accomplice was.
"Really?" Loki looked at her in surprise and then… laughed. He believed her, this time. It was clear that she wanted to show off; it was the only reason she would bother to tell him at all. Granted, she was right about one thing - Surtur's powers were formidable, to say the least. Yet unless the fire giant felt there was a reason to come for Freia, Loki really doubted he would.
Loki had been to Muspelheim before, the last time being the notable one where he had fought hard and been injured severely. Needless to say, he had not enjoyed the visit. This played into his reasoning, that there would be no need for worry on his part.
"I know creatures like Surtur. I am one, remember? He will not come for you, whore of whores. You are disposable to him. Whatever purpose you served him, it is done. He has no need of you. He will not waste his time with an invasion of Asgard simply to save his whore." He chuckled and gave Freia a smile, not a genuine one, but one filled with condescension. "I cannot imagine what you had to do to strike up such an alliance. Then again, at heart, he is but a man, like all of us. I think I can venture a guess."
Picking up the chamber pot, he turned away from her. "You will remain here until I choose to send guards to escort you to your new home. I know not when that will be. First, I am due to share lunch with my wife and my sons." The tone he used clearly denoted his satisfaction with having won, in his eyes. He had everything he needed, everything he had lost, and Freia had exactly nothing, save the life he would dictate for her. That, to him, constituted a flawless victory.

"He will come for me!", Freia exclaimed. With the last remants of her strength, she pulled herself up at the bars as Loki left. "He will come for me and you will be the one begging him for mercy!". It was too late, though. The God of Mischief had left the chamber, leaving his mother in law behind. ---
In their part of the palace, Sigyn was sitting in their salon, nervously playing with the hem of her dress. She got up then, in order to pace through the room. She had Greta have the servants prepare Narvi's and Vali's old rooms, that had been untouched and locked ever since her boys had died. Sigyn had never been able to re-organise her boy's childhood rooms, yet she had not dared to enter. Now that they were back, they needed their personal space. In a spare room, Iwaldi was spending his time with Narvi and Vali. Her father had requested it, wanting to take his mind off. Sigyn had willingly agreed. But she had been too nervous. What had the conversation with Freia revealed? What was the further procedure with her? With the boys? With his family? Sigyn felt as if she had not hugged or kissed her husband in forever and right now, she needed it more than ever. But eventually, she heard him walk in his perfect stride, his boots making clicking noises on the stone ground just before their salon. When he entered, he found Sigyn standing in the middle of the room, holding her breath.

As he walked through the palace, Loki considered a few random things. He was looking forward to seeing his boys again; despite everything, it was still difficult for him to believe they were back. So much time had passed. Now, though, they would catch up where they had left off. Life would be simpler, with less pain, less anger, more happiness. He remembered well how it had been with his sons, and was glad it should be that way again.
The guards who escorted him back to his wing surely wondered why he had such a smug and satisfied look on his face. What trickery had the God of Mischief been up to? They dared not ask, however; some things were better off unknown.
They left him at his wing; he continued alone, with the chamber pot under his arm. Entering their salon, he set the item aside and instantly went toward Sigyn. "My love," he said softly, embracing her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "I hope all is well. How are they?" he asked, meaning Vali and Narvi in particular. There was nothing unusual in Sigyn's expression except anticipation, so he figured nothing had gone horribly wrong, but it never hurt to ask.

Loki entered and brought a....chamber pot? Into their salon? Sigyn accepted his embrace,s he hugged him back, even kissed him in relief, but confusion was written all over herself. She held him by his lower arms, meeting his gaze. "They are good, they are with my father. He did not take it too well. I offered him to move into the palace if he cannot handle staying in the house. I hope that is alright,....Loki, what is this?", she gave him a brief explanation. Sigyn had a weird, uncomfortable feeling in her guts. She knew her husband, knew that sometimes, his temper got the best of him. She had been victim to this a long time ago and after all, he had met with her mother, the murderer of his sons. Somehow, she suspected this pot had something to do with it. Sigyn grew uneasy. Yes, she would have killed Freia had she met her. She still would. So, it had been Loki confronting her. But had he already exectued some kind of punishment, without consulting Sigyn? She was part of this, she deserved to take action herself, one way or the other.
She frowned, gazing at the pot and back at Loki. "You did not do anything reckless, did you?"

They embraced each other as usual, and she wrapped her hands around his arms as she had so often, but something was amiss. Loki was relieved to hear that the boys were fine. He had almost expected Freia's prophecy to come true then and there. Surely some fresh tragedy would befall them, but when? Could they have not a moment of peace?
"Oh," he said, realizing how out of place the chamber pot was in their salon, and waved a hand. It disappeared, to reappear in a more proper place in their guest wing. It did not occur to him that he should explain what the thing had been doing there in the first place.
"Of course, he could move in," Loki answered, a little uncertainly, however. From what he had learned… he would have to approach Iwaldi with caution. If he was already broken up about losing his wife, how much more so if he learned he had never truly had her to begin with?
Sigyn's question left him a bit confused. He did not consider anything he had done "reckless". It had all been quite thought out and well played. Yet he knew she might consider some of the things he had done "reckless." She would have to decide for herself, then.
"We had a talk," he explained slowly. "She confessed to everything rather quickly. And more. She knows… what I am, Sigyn. I had not intended to leave there without doing something, but I could not let that go unanswered, my love." He paused for a moment to gather his thoughts. Perhaps he had indeed been a bit reckless…..
"She spoke of you and Iwaldi with no respect for either, just insult after insult. She taunted me with claims of an alliance with Surtur. I could not stand idly in the face of such talk. I took away her magic and bound her life to the chamber pot you saw there. She is an old woman now, feeble and incapable of doing anyone any harm."
He had begun to talk faster as he went on, and by the time he finished, had to take a breath. He searched Sigyn's face for signs of approval or disapproval. This was not how he had expected to be greeted at all.

Things fell into place, made sense. Loki had not merely had a conversation with her mother. Quite on the contrary, Loki had actually executed punishment over Freia. By himself, without consulting his wife, the one that had been the victim and target of Freia's curse. Her daughter. Sigyn, who was so full of vengeance, that she had not even managed to meet her own sons right after learning about her mother's misconduct.
Sigyn understood his desire for the actions he had done earlier. She knew that his ego, pride and protectiveness over his family would not have allowed him to take Freia's shit and not act on it. Yet, she was kind of mad, for Loki had taken her chance to take revenge from her. At least, he had taken the chance to freely decide from her.
However, Loki had gone through a lot lately. He was bruised, exhausted, tired of all the tragedies raining down on them. Instead of having the first breakfast in forever with his sons, he had gone to visit her mother. He was being strong for her when she couldn't be. Sigyn had to cut him some slack and support him. She dropped her head, inhaled, bit her lip. Those were quite a lot of informations, but she was as tired as he was. Sigyn squeezed his hands. "You need to tell me exactly what she said. For now, do not say a word to my father. He's on our side entirely, yet I do not want for him to suffer any more than he already is. And you, my love, should spend some time with your sons eventually. Freia is locked up, anything else can wait for now.", Sigyn said, lifting his hand so she could put a kiss on his knuckles.
She wanted to know everything Freia had sais, but that conversation would be postponed. For his sons were waiting for him.

The fact that Sigyn had also wanted her own vengeance had not occurred to Loki in the moment, when he had been dealing with Freia. He had just wanted her to suffer, then and there, before his eyes. Now that he stood before Sigyn, who seemed confused about what had happened without her presence, re recognized that he may have misstepped. Fortunately, she seemed forgiving, if he had indeed caused her any discomfort.
"I will," he answered, promising to tell her everything Freia had said. Those words would not leave him anytime soon. Especially not the insults, the woman's true feelings about her husband and daughter, and her attempt to cow him with her threats regarding Surtur and his own lineage.
He did feel very bad about Iwaldi, and was prepared to make every effort to help his father-in-law. He would keep silent about things for now, but once Iwaldi had recovered enough, they would have to talk about where to go from here. Loki was not sure what the procedure was in this case, when a wife shamed her husband. Should Iwaldi lose his standing as well? He hoped not, but it would not be up to him.
"I would like to see them," he said quietly. He had barely seen his sons awake since their return. It would take much effort not to break down in front of them. He had felt grief, even cried over their loss, and now that they were back, he could only guess how he would react.

"You should, my only," Sigyn said, cupping his cheek with her hand. Did they not deserve this? A little peace and quiet after all the hassle? Finally reuniting their family, even though something horrible had surfaced? For all her life - least ever since she had met Loki that fateful night - she had only wanted his best. She wanted him happy. And even though Sigyn knew that she could not cure all ill and sometimes, she'd even be the cause for Loki not being well, she had always strived to make things right. Seeing the look in his eyes, she knew she had done the right thing bringing the boys back.
Now, being with them again should be a happy moment. It truly had been to Sigyn, and it would be for Loki, but things were not either black or white. Seeing the boys fool around with Iwaldi, having them close, touching them, brought back the horrible memories of sitting by their deathbeds, watching the life fade, touching their alive bodies for the last time, seeing, hearing their last breaths and feeling her own heart break again. She knew, there was still time, but Sigyn would rather bring Thor down to Hel right now than in a week or two or even months. Losing them again was no option. And for what it was worth, she would not survive this another time.
"Come," she said, taking his hand. They left the salon and went down the hallway, to the closest guest room, that served as Narvi's and Vali's room for the time being. The boys did not know what happened yet, they thought they had been sleeping for a very long time. Another thing Loki and Sigyn would have to break to them. Explain how they could have slept for thousands of years, without forever damaging their young souls. Sigyn lifted his hand to her lips, kissed his knuckles and let go in order to open the door.
In the room, Iwaldi sat on a couch, reading a book to Narvi, who was entirely cuddled into his grandfather's side, while Vali was sitting on the ground, playing with some toys. Upon seeing his father, Narvi jumped off the couch. "Father!", Narvi laughed, running towards his father. The boys had been very cuddly and on the look for attention and affection today. It felt as if they were missing their parents, almost like subconsciously, they knew for how long they had not seen each other. Vali got up just as well, but he took his time, almost like he wanted Narvi to enjoy this moment first.
Iwaldi looked up at Loki, at Sigyn, but he kept quiet for now. Even after what he himself had been through, he granted his daughter and son-in-law this moment.
They had waited for thousands of years.

It seemed forever as they walked to the guest room, yet it happened so quickly. Loki had no time to think about what his reaction should be. His thoughts briefly wandered to a time long before, when the boys had been alive originally. Visions of past days flashed through his mind, until they were in the room, and he saw them, awake, for the first time.
Seeing Iwaldi in the room, he gave a small nod, but of course his focus was on his children, who recognized their father's arrival quickly. He stooped down to catch the running Narvi in a hug. "Narvi," he murmured into his son's hair, hugging him tight. He could scarcely believe it; this was certainly the same boy they had lost so tragically so long ago. Then Vali joined them, and Loki let go of Narvi long enough to give him a separate hug. "Vali."
Then he gently pulled Narvi back into his arms, hugging both boys at once. They were back. They were a family again. He had yet to tell his parents and brother about all this, as he had been supposed to, but he figured that could wait. Surely they had heard something of it by now in any case, if the servants of the castle were as loose-tongued as he was beginning to believe.
"Tell me, what have you been up to today? Have you been behaving well for Grandfather?" he teased his sons, while reaching for Sigyn's hand to pull her down into the hug with them if she was still standing. It would take time to forget all the bad that had happened, but they had to start somewhere, and that somewhere could be here and now.

Vali and Narvi were throwing themselves at their father as soon as he had gone down on their level. They definitely showed a kind of affection that suggested they had been missing their parents, yet they were lacking the sadness and relief that Sigyn and Loki felt. This truly was a happy moment. Seeing Loki embracing his sons made Sigyn eventually tear up. She wasn't crying and she made an effort to wipe that tear away quickly, when Loki pulled her in for a family hug. She kissed each boy's hair, Loki included, brushed her hand over Narvi's head, kissed Vali's cheek again. Loki's and her gaze met for a second and she smiled. There it was, this kind of understanding they had always had. This had been the right thing, no matter the cost. "Father, why are you wearing armor, are we going into battle?", Vali asked, brushing his hand over Loki's chestplate. "GRANDFATHER READ US A STORY!", Narvi hurried to explain, talking extra loudly so Loki'd hear him. That was when Sigyn looked up to her father, who was kind of frozen on that couch. She did not hesitate to get up, just to kneel in front of that couch and put her hand into her father's lap, embracing his middle. She was a princess, a mother and a wife, but she was also a daughter. Maybe, her father needed her more than she needed him right now. "You're a part of this family, my dear father," Sigyn said, looking up at him. Iwaldi's eyes were filled with confused tears. He surely was happy about this reunion, yet the pain of his wife's conduct lay heavily on him. "I know, my sweet girl," he said, brushing his fingers over his daughter's face, "And I could not be happier about it."

It felt so wonderful to have his two boys in his arms again. Even Loki had not thought it possible after Hela shut them out of traveling to Hel. Sigyn had truly done well. The boys seemed to pick up on some things and others not, just as Loki would have had them. Someday they would explain the truth, but for now, they were likely better off not knowing.
Loki was hugging both of them tight, as tight as he could. This moment could never end. For him, for he who despised feelings so much, it was a rare occasion - a welling up of emotions freely let loose. He did not cry, but his eyes sparkled, with happiness and other things he dared not identify. Then the particularly perceptive Vali noticed that Loki was all in armor, and asked him why.
"No, my dear son," he said, resting his hand on Vali's cheek. "No more battles for a while."
He said that, and he truly hoped it. But Freia's words rang in his ears. There would always be trouble around him. It was as much a part of him as his hands and feet. was it fair, then, for him to have Sigyn and their sons around him? Was it fair to bring them into the path of the storm?
No, it was not. But he would do it, because he was selfish and he needed them.
"Who is hungry?" Loki asked, ruffling Narvi's hair, but his glance included Iwaldi and Sigyn in the question. "Your father is famished. Already it has been a long day."
They would have lunch brought to them, perhaps, and enjoy the meal together. No meal as simple as it may be, would ever be more special.

"Me! Me!," the boys cried out in union, lifting their arms. Narvi was also bouncing up and down. Even though their age difference had decreased due to the circumstances of their deaths and return, Narvi was still significantly smaller than Vali. It seemed like Loki's tall built - deriving from his giant heritage - had rubbed off on Vali, whereas Narvi seemed to have gotten his built from his mother's side. However, no one really knew until the boys had grown men. It was amazing how two people so little could already have such great and different personalities. Sometimes, Vali and Narvi reminded Sigyn of Thor and Loki, but they had a much better relationship and Vali was not exactly as reckless as the Thunderer. After all, he was Lokison and as such, wit and cunning came with the package naturally.
Sigyn and Iwaldi got up, joined Loki and the boys. They would possibly not share lunch here, but in the dining room. "Come on then, boys," Sigyn said, patting Vali's back, helping Narvi get up. They moved ahead, but Iwaldi stalled, wanting to catch Loki for a private second. "Loki," the dwarf said. Iwaldi rarely called Loki by his title. Of course, he had gotten to know him as the prince, but after all these years he had become his son. Son-in-law, of course, but Iwaldi did not make a big difference between the two. After all, Loki was the one who held his daughter's heart. "Know that I am with you and Sigyn on this. I do not approve of anything that happened. It pains me to know that all these years, the cause of this tragedy has shared a bed with me every night and I did not realize any of the deeds she executed.", he explained. Iwaldi felt the need to let Loki know that - against the love he had held for his wife - it would not be strong enough to overcome cursing her own daughter. For he loved Sigyn and his grandchildren as well.
