"Oh no no no, only if you have the next nine," Sigyn said. And suddenly, her eyes were sparkling with tease. They had not sparkled in a while. Of course, this was a joke on his account, after all, he had given birth before. Under weird circumstances, admittedly and possibly they could not have children, unless Sigyn would birth them. In the course of eternity, twelve pregnancies were nothing. In fact, who knew how much children they had had, hadn't Narvi and Vali died and caused Sigyn to be utterly reluctant to conceive again. So who knew, maybe this baby wouldn't be the last they were going to have. But they'd have to make the first step before the second and the first step was this baby. The one growing inside of her as they were speaking.
Loki's eyes were glistening just as well as he was bending over her, making her lie back more and more until he eventually braced his body and gently lay down upon her. His voice had that edge in it, a familiar one. But instead of talking naughty to her or making any other move into the direction she had assumed this to take, Loki....just said the sweetest things he had said in a while. Sigyn watched him, held his hair back from falling into her face. Before she could even react, he kissed and thanked her. She frowned, whispered. "What for, my love?", Sigyn asked. There was nothing to thank her for, at least she didn't think so. This was not a 'thank you' for a nice day or a nice dinner. This was more. Sigyn would renew their vows every day, right now if she had to. She meant them as much as she had meant them back then, possibly, even more.

At Sigyn's protests, Loki's lips curled into a wicked smile. He was a shapeshifter and sorcerer, after all. Anything was possible - and he had indeed given birth before. As a horse, but still, the experience had certainly given him an appreciation for the trials of childbearing. "I don't know. That could be kinky. Are you into that?" he teased, pinching her stomach lightly.
The mood became more serious on the subject of their marriage. He meant every word he said; on the rare occasions that he lied to Sigyn, it was almost always a white lie, something harmless or small. He would not mislead her with regard to something that affected them both so deeply.
He simply looked at her for a moment, smiling softly. He had found the words to thank her, but for what, he could not articulate so easily. "Everything" would be too simple an answer, too broad. Yet were he to list every last thing he wanted to thank her for, even if he could, it would take him all night to explain. He wasn't that patient.
"For seeing what I could not see," he said quietly, "and for understanding, for every moment of patience and tolerance. For bringing two - soon three - wonderful children into my life, and for showing me how to love the children I already had. For… being everything I need." He kissed her again, gently. "I am certain I don't say it often enough. So - thank you." He kissed her forehead affectionately. "I love you, my queen."

She had that urge to put her finger on his lips. Loki did not have to say this. Of course, sometimes he did not exactly act as though he was as thankful as he claimed, but fact was, that she knew he was. Loki might not be realizing it, but it showed. He acted entirely different around her than he did around others. He was gentle and sweet most of the times. He did not burn her into the ground should she give him an order - even though she only did with minor matters and even that happened rarely. Moreover, it was in his eyes.
Perhaps however, Loki needed to say it. So Sigyn listened, her eyes turning almost watery. She kissed him back, gently, leaning her face towards him for a second, until it became too heavy. She still had her thumbs on his cheek, stroking gingerly. "Those boys would not have come into existence if not for you. Everything I did, everything I'll ever do, is for us. The three of them. Soon...four. This is not my doing. It is ours. You do not realize how wonderful you are. With all your flaws and with all our fights, you still are. If you truly believe we have been destined to be, then, by all means, thank the Nine Realms or the gods, but alas, do not thank me, my love. I am only doing what my heart is telling me."
Sigyn wanted nothing more than to bury her face into his neck, but he was still hovering above her and she was way too comfortable lying like this. "I have been foolish to be so reluctant to give you another child. This is wonderful. This is my....saviour."

It was very likely that Sigyn would never be able to convince Loki that he was affectionate enough. He felt he was not, such that to him, it was fact. He did need to say it, perhaps for his benefit more than her own. He no longer believed that he was a failure of a husband or father, but it would still take a little more time before he was completely sure of himself.
Loki may have helped create their sons, but Sigyn had carried them inside her, had brought them into the world, and he understood the significance of that. They had raised the boys together, though. That was true. "I do believe it," he said, cradling his head into her touch. Something had brought them together, and whatever it was, he was glad for it.
Leaning down again, he kissed her chest, right over where her heart should be - not in an overly sensual manner, but affectionately. He raised his eyes to look at her. Had she been foolish? Perhaps, but so had he. "This is the happiest I have seen you in some time," he remarked. "It may be just what we both need."
Now he kissed the side of her face, just under her ear, and the way he kissed her would tell her that he was considering a change in mood, and perhaps in scenery. His finger traced the top of her blouse, tugging it down lightly to expose more skin, and kissing it tenderly. Her body might be the same as it had been for thousands of years, but he never grew tired of it.

She was not a fool, Sigyn realized how Loki was trying to change the mood even before her pulled her blouse down. There was nothing wrong with celebrating by sleeping with each other, yet she was not quite in the mood yet. It felt as though they had not properly talked and spent time with each other in forever, everything had been overshadowed by Sigyn's weird pain and the mood it had created.
Strangely, even though there were a thousand new questions now that she was pregnant again, she felt relaxed, calm and not stressed. It was odd, but it was just what she had needed. Both of them. "Hey," she called out, getting a hold of his chin so that he'd stop putting little kisses on her cleavage and look at her. "Loki, talk to me. For just a little while longer." Sigyn raised her brow. The harsh grip she had on his chin turned softer, she leaned in awkwardly to put a kiss on his lips. "I feel more like myself, I have to admit, maybe I should.....maybe I have been foolish to think I'd be anything else but a homemaker to you. Perhaps, this is my calling. My haven." She was not judging this. She merely pondered the change of her mood. Possibly, striving to become a warrior - or secretly wanting it - were just the remnants of a Sigyn that had rebelled against her mother and her upbringing. A wife, a mother, a consultant to her husband. That might be just what she had been meant to be all along.

Slightly distracted, Loki looked up at Sigyn as she held his chin. There was more on her mind, it seemed, and he waited patiently as she explained her thoughts. There may have been a time when Loki wanted nothing more than a woman to bear his children and warm his bed, but that time had passed. Sigyn had changed that. He had discovered that he could maintain a relationship, that he needed more than just a wife. He needed a companion, a second conscience, an unconditional lover. Someone to second-guess him, someone to be patient with an understand him. Sigyn had been all those things and more.
"You could be more," he mused. "You should be. Perhaps not now, as the child will need her mother. But I would not prevent you from being anything you wished to be." He could imagine going into battle with her at his side; they had talked about it before. They had done it before, now. She had proven just as effective and efficient a fighter as he had hoped and expected.
He rested his head next to hers. "No matter which path you choose, I will support you. Unless that path leads away from me." He pinched her cheek playfully. By now he knew that she had no intention of leaving him, and he would not leave her. That was just how it was between them.

Sigyn crinkled her nose and squeezed her eyes shut, when he pinched her cheek. It was a playful move, getting Sigyn distracted from her deep thoughts. Were those thoughts, even , or just a revelation? An epiphany? "Loki," she complained with a giggle, "what are you going to do next, hide from me and giggle in your little hiding spot?" Of course, she liked seeing him playful, lighter. He deserved many of those moments, yet they were rare. They had been rare lately, especially, for both of them. Vali and Narvi managed to lighten their moods up every now and then. Maybe Loki and her just had to suck it up. She didn't know, she just knew, with this baby, things were chaning and contrary to what she had believed, they were changing for the better. "I might consider leaving you. So I can have a secret affair with you and let the excitement of danger dull my senses and entice me.", she opened her eyes and gave him a teasing look. "Even though, I'm pretty sure no man that tried and court me would live for long." Even if she left him, he would not let any other man lay a hand on her, that she assumed. He'd kill and kill over and over again. It was a good thing Sigyn had no such intention. "Just promise me this, no killing should our daughter ever be courted. Can you try to do that? Or....rather not do it?" Whatever it was, but both of them were kind of sure it'd be a girl.

Apparently his childishness amused Sigyn, Loki found. He grinned at her. "Why would I do that? I'm so comfortable here." He snuggled his body against hers as a child or a puppy might. He was in a good mood, for the news she had given him, for their reconciliation, for being around her. At the moment, he was happier than he had been in some time - and he hoped it would last.
Loki chuckled at her suggestion of an affair with him. "All the gossips will wonder who it is that has taken your fancy so and won you from me," he said jokingly, "and be disappointed to learn that it is only me." He kissed the tip of her chin delicately and considered her next comment.
"You are correct," he murmured, meeting her teasing glance before grazing his lips along her cheek. She was already aware of the things he did to men who simply looked at her the wrong way; how much more a man who touched her, who tried to court her? Loki would kill him on the spot, find his soul in Hel, and kill him again. "And I expect any woman who made an attempt with me would meet an unfortunate fate as well."
The thought might have been terrifying to anyone else, but to Loki, death and killing were natural. It was the way one went about it that mattered.
"Must I?" he teased, but then his face took on a more serious expression. "I will not kill any person who should wish to court our daughter." It would be more healthy for her; surely the deaths of all her admirers would not bode well with the girl. And as much as he wanted to protect his children, he knew he must also protect them from himself, from his own motives.
Indeed, Loki had essentially convinced himself that the child would be a girl. He would not be disappointed by a boy, but he was certainly hoping for a daughter. He wanted one more than almost anything he ever had wanted.

It seemed like the God of Michief was in a playful mood just now. Really, it was such a decent, necessary change to all that brooding and fighting they had endured during the last months. In retrospective - and now in this mood - it all felt so futile, so needless. It had brought nothing but further grief, when they could have been happy instead. Sigyn knew it wasn't as easy as that. She had looked into the deepest abyss she had ever seen. When her sons had died, she had known why she had been devastated, but she had barely recognized herself lately. And now, she felt more complete. It was strange, given the ups and downs pregnancy would bring. But her hopes were high again. They hadn't been in a while.
Lifting her hands, she cupped his beautiful face and watched it. Once more, she realized how her boys resembled their father so much. Narvi in particular was the spitting image of Loki with his big, green eyes and raven hair. She could just look into these eyes forever, if she wanted to. His face was almost more familiar than her own, she knew every line of it, every movement, even though the Trickster God was still able to fool her if he only put a lot of effort into it.
"She will grow up to be a strong, confident woman. The man she will choose, the man she will allow courtship, will be lucky. We will raise her well and trust her. We only have ourselves." It sounded like a romantic confession and it was, but there was also something quite sinister behind her lovely words. They only had themselves. Loki, Sigyn, Vali, Narvi. Everybody else could ultimately not be trusted. After all what had happened with Freia, Sigyn knew that for sure.

Smiling at her, Loki nodded. Their daughter would be smart and cunning and wise. They would teach her well, and she would take those lessons and teach herself more. She and her brothers would be greater even than their parents had been. Any partners they chose would have to be the best for them. They would choose on that basis. Like their parents, they would choose for compatibility and love. And they would have children of their own, who would continue the tradition. Their lineage would be the greatest of their times.
"She will choose well," he murmured, lightly placing a hand on Sigyn's stomach. He could not feel anything yet, but knowing that the child was there, growing, was enough. It was a daughter, they both knew it. They both willed it. Nothing else could be. They would have this child, who had proven herself so resilient already.
They only had themselves. It was true. Their families had proven untrustworthy. Any friends they had once had were now deserted. But they could depend on each other, and their children. That would never change. They had only themselves.
He kissed her cheek gently. "And that is all we need," he assured her. They could get through anything as long as they faced it together. As long as they weren't at each other's throats, as they had been for a while. They were stronger as one. Unconquerable.
And all who did not believe that would learn it for themselves.
