The slightest touch from her was enough to comfort him, and the warm water helped to ease him as well. He leaned his head against hers a little, glad to be in her arms again. Yes, this was where he belonged. This was where he was accepted for who he was. Closing his eyes, he listened to Sigyn explain what she had been up to in his absence. In his anger over his own predicament, he had neglected to ask her how she had been.
The news about Gudrun was good to hear, and he was glad Sigyn had had a companion while he had been gone; her comment about the little girl made him chuckle; but the last bit of information confused him a bit, mostly because of how it was delivered. Who was pregnant? She was? Sigyn was? He turned his head to look at her, and then, as if that was not good enough, turned his entire torso so he could see her.
"You're pregnant," he repeated softly, as if to test the truth of the words on his tongue. "Sigyn, that's wonderful."
It was then that the news really hit him. They would have a child. Together, they had created life, a child all their own. He smiled, then laughed for a moment, a laugh of pure happiness. "Sigyn, that's wonderful."
He barely noticed that he had repeated himself. He hugged her, awkwardly because of the way his body was turned, then kissed her, lightly at first, then more affectionately, more passionately. "We're having a baby," he whispered, his voice light with wonder, his expression as open and happy as a child's.
They were having a baby.

She was still holding her breath as Loki was processing the information. She had not doubted that he'd be happy about the news, they had wanted children and they had not taken any precautions for a while, but that had exactly been it: It had taken some time to actually get her pregnant. This would be a tremendous change in their life together. So far, it had only been Sigyn and Loki and sometimes, it had felt as if they had been against the world. This little person would be theirs to take care of, their joy, their future. Greta had been the one pointing the truth out to Sigyn, noticing the change in her appearance, knowing that she had not bled for two months in a row. Of course, no one else knew. Loki was the first one supposed to learn about it, but he had been gone. Now that he was back, Sigyn did not have to put her feelings on hold any longer. "Yes, I believe I am. Yes, yes...", she repeated herself, laughing and hugging him back equally awkwardly, until he had turned around enough and adjusted himself into a more comfortable situation. "We are having a child," she laughed, kissing him back between chuckles. Sigyn did not realize that she had started to cry, a sentiment she did not fall victim to often. But this was unique. "I am sorry for overwhelming you, I did not know how to tell you," she said, taking his face into her hands to make him look at her, instead of kissing her for now. "I have not bled in two months and my....", she said, looking down at her breasts. If Greta had noticed, Loki would, too, possibly. "I am so happy, Loki." She had no doubt that he would make an amazing father. The happiness in his eyes only now proved it. Arrangements had to be made, their families needed to know and then, there would most likely be some kind of public announcement. But for now, this was their matter, a private moment. One of the happiest she had ever been granted.

They were having a baby. The thought occurred to Loki over and over again until it was stuck in his mind. A baby, theirs to raise and love, theirs to introduce to the world and everything in all the realms. An heir, if indeed there was anything to inherit.
He kissed her cheeks to ease her tears, but let her hold his face afterward, looking at her as she told him about her changes. Indeed, now that he was looking for it, he saw that her breasts had grown bigger. So far there seemed to be no downsides to this pregnancy. "Yes," he said, giving them a playful little squeeze. "I am happy as well, Sigyn."
"Happy" was not a word that left his lips often. Sometimes he felt it, sometimes he even thought it, but he was more likely to use words like "content" or "pleased." But there was no other word to express what he felt. Or perhaps there was. Joyous? Ecstatic?
He placed a hand on her stomach carefully, knowing he would not feel anything different at this stage, but feeling compelled to do so for some reason. Maybe he wanted to have a connection with the baby.
"That is the best news you could have given me," he told her. It had taken them many tries, but it seemed they had succeeded at last. He took her hands and kissed them, too overcome with surprise and happiness to say much more. He was proud of her, of both of them, and he loved her, more than he knew how to express.

Sigyn gasped as he touched her breasts, but not particularly in the most pleasant way. Before she could think about it, her hand was on his, trying to keep him from further fondling. Her breats had gotten a bit bigger, but also a lot more sensitive. "I....they are quite sensitive," Sigyn hurried to explain. Loki should not feel offended, but her body was changing and she could not deny it.
The way his eyes shone when he put his hand on her stomach was amazing. Sigyn had known him for quite a while, yet she could not recall having seen him this excited, amazed and truly happy. She chuckled, letting him do as he pleased, even if she doubted there'd be any change to her stomach just now, neither visibly, nor concerning it's feel. "It will take some time until I'll show," she said, continuing to caress his cheek. "We still have some time to keep it to ourselves. But I know someone that cannot wait to congratulate you." Greta was patient, but Sigyn knew how fond she was of Loki and how much she wanted to give him her regards about this. Knowing Greta, she would probably throw all caution to the wind and pull him in for a hug just to apologize later on. She knew they'd have to tell their families eventually, but making this their little secret for now just felt so intriguing. Moreover, what if something happened? Greta had told her the first months of pregnancy were the most dangerous ones. Alas, nothing would go wrong. They would be fine. All three of them.
"Use your remaining time with me wisely, my love, for you will have to share me soon," she said, teasing him. Sigyn believed her heart to be big enough for Loki and a little version of him. Because if she had any say in this, this baby would be exactly that.

For a moment, Loki's smile went from being purely happy to apologetic as he realized he had hurt her. He squeezed her hand instead. Her body would be changing, and he would have to learn all the changes so as not to do something as thoughtless as that again.
Despite this not being his first child - he already had four others - this would be his first pregnancy, the first one he would be around for, excluding the odd circumstances of Sleipnir's birth. The rest of his children had been born so long ago that it might have been from a different life, and he recalled them with the same lack of clarity as his own childhood. He could not say how the pregnancies had gone, or even if he had been there for them.
This time, he was determined to see it through, to be by Sigyn's side. He would help her through the ups and downs, the trying times. There was pride in his eyes as he looked at her, for he was proud of her, his beautiful, intelligent wife. If he had his way, the child would have all of her traits, and the better traits of his.
It took him a moment to realize that it was Greta who would want to congratulate him. Surely Greta had picked up on the news even before Sigyn had. "Of course," he said, fully expecting a hug as well. In this case, he would not mind it. Being as important as she was to Sigyn, Greta got away with much more than the rest of their staff did.
"Then I will cherish every moment," he teased back, tickling under her chin. He knew the attention the baby would get would not be the same kind of attention he enjoyed from her, so he did not fear having to share her with their child. To him, to he who never shared, the prospect of having to do so in this case was not such a terrible thing at all.

There was no way she could imagine how Loki would react to having to share her. But she'd have to share him, as well. For now, Sigyn did not think about much that could go wrong. It wouldn't. This would be a beautiful baby, they'd have a bright future ahead of them, together with their little son or daughter and maybe, someday, a sibling for him or her. This was making everything even more perfect, at least that was exactly what Sigyn felt in this moment.
Her husband was here, having returned safely from battle, their marriage was going amazingly, much in contrast to the rough late start they had had, and she was not too bad at fulfilling her duties as a princess, even though Sigyn would have expected to hate it more than love it.
Sigyn leaned into his touch. Somehow, she still needed more than some tickling. They had not shared too many hugs ever since he had returned. Her desperate need for closeness would fade a little the longer he'd be back, but right now, she would not want to be five steps away from him. "Now," Sigyn said softly, running her hand up and down his arm, "There's still a massage you need." Being pregnant didn't mean she couldn't treat her husband. Besides, he was probably still sore and this bathtub was still warm. "Let me ease that tension, my only." This was what Sigyn could do: Assist, support and comfort him before and after battle. If she couldn't join him into the fight, she could at least make sure he'd feel good while being at it.

Two months, she had said. Loki could not have pinpointed the exact night of conception if he'd tried. They had made many attempts at getting pregnant, and not only for the reproduction side of it. Now they knew they had succeeded. Soon there would be a child of their own among them. If they were not the perfect family, then at least they would make him happy.
He turned around to allow Sigyn to massage his shoulders and back, which, along with his arms, really needed the attention. While searching for and then staking out the rebels, their accommodations had been less than comfortable; meaning they had slept on the ground and kept watch in trees. He had longed for his soft bed and the arms of his wife, but had not complained. The others would have told him that there was no honor in complaining about discomfort.
"I thought of you often," he told her, glancing over his shoulder at her. "I imagined you traveling and fighting alongside us." Someday he would take her on a mission with him. Not now, of course, and probably not while the child was young. But he knew she loved practicing with her spear, and it would be a shame if her practice never came to good use.

When she put her fingers to use, Sigyn noticed how hard and sore his muscles actually were. She knew he wouldn't complain and whine, but that didn't change the fact that he needed them to be loosened up. She was more than willing to do the job. Deft fingers applied soft pressure, curiously discovering the hardest spot, while she was careful not to hurt him too much. This would not work without a little pain, though. And so Sigyn's touch grew gentler when he winced.
She would have never expected herself to be a jealous person, but she was. It was not the crazy kind of jealousy, when she'd almost go berzerk on every woman looking at him, possibly with no intentions. That'd be a hard thing to do, given how often people looked, even stared at him. There was no browsing the markets without guards and being stared at, for both of them alike by now. It was a different kind of jealousy. Sigyn was quite attentive whenever a woman actually talked to him. She watched carefully. The thought of someone else putting her hands on him like that was unpleasant. She was a little embarrassed about this, but she would not admit that. Loki had probably done the math when she had started to give him releasing massages after battle, instead of having a skilled servant do it. "Is that alright?", she asked in a low voice, moving her fingers towards his nape. She briefly leaned in, put a kiss on the side of his skull. She'd wash his hair after this, he was actually smelling aweful. No need to tell him, though.
There was a gentle smile on her face when he told her about his thoughts. "As have I, my prince," she said. "You were the first thing on my mind in the morning, and the last at night, when I went to sleep. That bed is empty without you. Every is, actually." She had turned quite sappy ever since she had met Loki, but it actually felt good. Moreover, this wasn't sentiment, it was the naked truth. That he imagined her fighting alongside him was something she had not necessarily expected. It flattered her, but made her broody. "Oh," she mused, "I.....well, this won't happen for a while now anyway. And probably, not after. I hardly doubt any of your comrades would take me seriously. Sif, .....maybe. She might have respect a woman trying to stand her ground. She has been very respectful and nice towards me, I cannot say a bad thing about her." Still, as a woman and a princess, Sigyn was not necessarily supposed to fight in battle. [b"And I......wouldn't know how easily I could watch you in a dangerous situation. I'd fight besides you, but I'd probably be busy watching you and making sure you were alright."[/b] Little did Sigyn know that they would fight alongside each other in the future. Seeing all this blood on his armor made her uneasy already. Being present when that blood got onto it...no, she couldn't really see herself not caring about him then. "Take me to Midgard, Loki.", Sigyn said suddenly. She had not been there yet. She had only been to Vanaheim and Asgard itself. She wanted to travel farer than to the cabin their parents had, or to her relatives in Vanaheim. She had always been curious about Midgard. He'd take her, she was sure of it.

Her touch seemed to have a healing power all its own. Closing his eyes, Loki let himself enjoy it, only wincing ever so slightly when she reached a particularly tough knot. Yet those winces were enough to tell her that she had hit a sore spot, so attuned was she to his body and his expressions.
"That's perfect," he murmured. He did not know where or when she had learned to massage like this, but she was doing a damn good job. It did not occur to him that she was apprehensive about others touching him; he just thought she liked doing things herself. Had he thought about it more deeply, he would surely have figured it out.
"They have never seen you fight," he pointed out. Once the Warriors Three and Sif observed her combat skills, they would have no choice but to respect her abilities. As for Sif, he had a few bad things he could say about her, but compared to the rest of his so-called friends, she was the least bothersome one, to put it mildly.
"You underestimate yourself," he said mildly."You know better than to focus on anything other than your opponent in a battle. I do not think you would allow yourself to concentrate on me, though you certainly would care for my well-being."
Her unexpected request put a frown on his face for a moment. He could not imagine why she would wish to go to a place such as Midgard. In this era, he found it boring at best, and uncivilized at worst. There were parts of it that were quite beautiful, but those parts were few and far between, and having to deal with the mortals diminished that world's beauty as well.
However, he would not deny her a trip to Midgard, especially if it meant he would be there to show her around. He sometimes felt he knew Midgard better than its residents did; given his dislike for the place, that was saying something. "As you wish," he said, shooting a glance at her over his shoulder. "It is not an exciting place, and its lack of magic makes it feel ever more dull. But if you wish to see it, then we will make plans to go." If he did not sound overly enthusiastic, it was only because of his distaste for that realm, not any reluctance to travel with Sigyn. He wanted only the best for his wife.

"But I'm not, darling," Sigyn said, continuously massaging Loki's sore nape, "But I might be overestimating their arrogance." Sigyn did not think she was a bad fightress. She was not the kind of person being mean to herself to begin with. Actually, her self-perception was quite clear, realistic, most of the times. It was blurred and distorted when it came to her role as being a wife, because every time Loki felt miserable, Sigyn felt that urge to make him alright and sometimes, it didn't work out. But when it came to her skills or looks, she thought her perception to be healthy. But Loki was an excellent fighter and even better sorcerer, a strategist, incredibly smart. Still, he did not earn the respect he deserved. So Sigyn was quite careful with the others' judgement. Their desire for battle and admiration of what they called 'honor' was blurring their reason, as far as she was concerned.
"Lean forward," she commanded calmly, gently nudging his back. She would work on his middle and lower back, if he did so. "I know you are not fond of the realm. But I cannot keep on missing out on it. And I'm curious. I promise, I will make it up to you!", she said, a smirk and a tease in her voice. Marriage was not a tit-for-tat situation, she knew that. Loki did not expect any consideration for taking her to Midgard, but there was no harm in a little tease, was there? "These are going to be the last months we spend as two," she said, working down his back knot by knot, "We could go there for a...last vacation for a while?" Of course, that was not a bad thing, but time was indeed ticking away. A baby was a final situation. They'd be three instead of two. Forever.
Suddenly, having almost arrived at the small of his back below the water, Sigyn hit a spot that was almost as hard as rock, accidently squeezing too tightly. "By Odin, Loki! What did you do to your back?" He must have been in agony for a couple of days. Not that he'd admit that.

It was true, Thor and the Warriors Three, and Sif at times, could be vastly arrogant. If Sigyn joined them for a mission, they would look at it as nothing more than Loki's wife tagging along, wanting to play at being the hero. Yet Loki was certain that once they saw her fight, they would agree that she belonged on a battlefield. Sigyn's prowess in that area was an undeniable fact.
He leaned forward as instructed, and nearly bit his tongue as she worked on some of the tougher knots. What had it been, four weeks without a comfortable place to lay his head? But it had all been for glory and honor, as Thor and the others had insisted. Loki had seen neither of those, but he had to admit, being here in the bath with Sigyn did make up for it.
Fortunately, he did not need much more convincing as far as going to Midgard. If his wife wanted to go, then he would take her there. Besides, if he got to choose where in Midgard they went - for the realm was large and quite varied - he could choose somewhere suitable for her. She would probably want to see everything, but Loki had already seen the majority of what Midgard had to offer and much of it was, plainly, quite boring. Dingy and classless it could be, and in some parts it was even dangerous.
"All right," he agreed. "We will make plans to go." Whether she got a chance to make it up to him did not matter; he knew going to Midgard would make her happy, and that was what he wanted. He did not understand exactly how or why going to Midgard would make her happy, but it seemed that it would, and that was what was important.
As she squeezed a particularly bad knot, he ground his teeth to force back a pained shout. "Slept in trees and on the ground," he told her. Oh, he had been sore, but he'd had to push that to the back of his mind then. He had been too busy arguing with Thor.
"I'm fine," he assured her, in case she thought she had hurt him too much or was reluctant to go on. "It's nothing." Of course, she knew by now that that meant it was painful, but he would never admit it. He had to be strong, was expected to be strong, and whimpering about a little back pain would not help that image.

"Good," Sigyn said, smiling to herself. The longer she worked on his back, the more Sigyn realized that this sore back might not vanish from her skills at massaging. Perhaps, eventually, he'd need professional help. A few scented massages at the healing chambers, perhaps. Oh, the thought was irritating her, even though Sigyn knew it was pathetic and ridiculous. "I do not know whether I can ease all that tension in your back, Loki. I'm afraid you might have to go to the healing chambers." As probably the other warriors had done as well. Or maybe, they had sent for someone, who knew. "But in all honesty, how do sou sleep in a tree?", she added after a moment, now very gently moving her fingertips over his back. She could imagine lurking in a tree for a while. But actually sleeping? Sigyn pursed her lips. Maybe, they should try that, once Loki's back was better and....no. She was pregnant. The times of recklessness had come to an end for now. Sigyn cupped a bit of water in her hands, moved them up and dampened his hair. She pulled herself closer, until her hands fit around his middle, put her cheek against his shoulderblades. "Can it just be us for ...a day or two? Please?", she asked. Maybe, Odin would hold a festive event at the great hall in honor of the warriors that had returned, who knew. Sometimes, however, Sigyn just wanted to be isolated, not talk to anyone but Loki and enjoy his company instead of having to play her role as a princess. "We could eat strawberries and talk and do some magic...", she added, moving her thumbs over the soft skin of his stomach. She felt strangely emotional. Almost as if she was about to lose Loki. Greta had already told her that she might feel differently during her pregnancy. She just hoped she wouldn't turn into a sappy mess.

Going to the healing chambers would probably end badly, Loki thought. For one, he hated being touched. Sigyn was an exception, of course, as were his family members and, briefly, certain others whom he had allowed within range of his person. Moreover, he had a tendency to be short-tempered with servants. He did not reply to her suggestion, not because he had ignored it, but because he was certain she would not like the answer.
The question about the tree did get an answer. "Reconnaissance can be rather boring," Loki explained, laughing. "It is difficult not to fall asleep." They had each fallen asleep at some point while keeping watch, but Loki was most likely the only one to have done so in a tree. A testament to his ability to stay balanced, he decided.
He shook his hair out after she dumped water in it, sending droplets flying everywhere. If Odin did hold some sort of event, Loki was not interested in attending. He did not want to speak to Thor and the others and, more importantly, he would rather be in Sigyn's company. "We could do whatever you wish," he told her as he tilted his head against hers. "It will be our time, and ours only."
Closing his eyes, he suddenly felt fairly tired, though his body certainly felt less tense than it had been. Loki seldom napped, but he might read a bit or, since he and Sigyn both seemed to want to spend time with each other, simply sit with her and talk. "Tell me more about what you did while I was away," he said, more to hear her voice than anything else.

A stubborn one, that he was. He'd be the one with the remaining pains in his back if Sigyn did not manage to massage all the knots out of his muscles. She had to smile though, a silly smile that went along nicely with the kiss she put upon his shoulder. "I remember you having a rather good time spying me out at that ball so many years ago," she joked. Well, he had not spied on her. He had seen and summoned her within two minutes tops. But he had stared at her. That was something, was it not?
Sigyn kept her chin on his shoulder and herself close to him. It was kind of a stretch, since his upper body was so much longer than hers, but it was comfortable and she appreciated the long desired closeness. "I'd like to explore the countrysides. And food. Midgardian sustenance. As much of it as we can get. We could even prank a couple of mortals. It is going to be delightful!", she said. Of course, his idea of pranking people and hers were quite different on occasion, as the harm Sigyn's pranks did was usually not as big as Loki wanted. But either way, they'd find a good solution and would enjoy bickering on the way to finding it. She sighed while another couple of kisses found their way on his skin. "I was mostly busy missing you, my love. Although I did not whine, of course. Greta called me out on the changes of my body soon after you left, so after I failed to resist that urge, I started to sew a little blanket. I missed practicing the art of fighting, but I do not want to take any risks," she said, "You will probably have to make do with a very large wife for a while." Sigyn chuckled. If she gained a lot of weight, then she'd gain a lot of weight. She was not too worried to get back in shape afterwards. She'd just need a couple of new dresses, that was all. "Loki?", she asked, "Would you rather have a boy or a girl? You must decide! Otherwise.....otherwise I'd grow a mustache that I would never be able to get rid of!", she played, giggling to herself.

The ball had become a pleasant memory for Loki. At the time, he had not been sure, because he had entrusted several secrets to Sigyn, who had been a stranger at the time, and though she had done the same with him, neither had any way of knowing they would be betrayed. Now, of course, he knew that would not be the case, and it amused him to look back on how they had behaved around each other that night - he trying to impress her, she doing her best to be uninterested.
"I remember that," he chuckled. Where would he be now had that night not happened the way it had? Asgard was a small place, in terms of its society; surely he and Sigyn would have met eventually, would they not have? He could not imagine not knowing her. The alternative was the same bland existence he had led before meeting her.
As for Midgardian sustenance, he found it boring, but then his exposure to it was mostly food he'd had to eat on missions, which were not exactly the best the realm had to offer. If this trip introduced him to something he could like about Midgard, he would count himself fortunate. He was looking forward to making more memories with Sigyn, not so much to enjoy the company of mortals.
"Prank mortals? I thought you would ask me to be on my best behavior." He grinned at her. His idea of "pranking" was not only much less mild than hers, but it would probably result in burnt villages and confused mortals. In fact, a few of the realm's strangest occurrences throughout its early history could be attributed to Loki and his pranking. Not that the mortals fully realized that.
He took her hands and kept them wrapped around him. "A blanket? I would like to see it." He did not doubt Sigyn's skill at sewing, but he did not usually see her at that task. Usually it was spear or sword practice, or horseback riding. When she sewed, it was usually with Frigga, which Loki was never a part of. He knew to leave the women to their gossip.
And she would have to do with a very protective husband, he thought, but did not say just yet. He would not treat her as though she were fragile, but he would be wary of any strangers approaching her. But he just smiled and stroked her hand. "You will be my wife carrying my child," he said softly. "I will make do."
Of course, the next answer was simple for Loki. One day, they would have an assortment of boys and girls. But for now, he wanted… "A boy," he answered confidently. A boy to carry on his name and legacy. "There, that should save you your mustache," he added, tickling her stomach lightly.
