As Sigyn gestured toward them, Hela's gaze swept over the bodies. They seemed to be in good condition; Sigyn had done her part well. She glanced at the boys. They had recognized themselves, seemed to be drawn to the bodies that were their own. A good sign. Not that Hela cared - this was Sigyn's project, not hers. The outcome had no bearing on Hela's future.
She gave a small nod upon hearing Sigyn's words. Raising her hands up before her, she concentrated on the bodies, and soon the spirits beside her disappeared. Only for a moment, though, as Hela approached the bodies and touched each one lightly,
Soon Vali's body came to life, gasping for air as though he were waking from a deep sleep. Soon Narvi's body did the same. They would be able to talk and walk and behave as they had prior to their deaths, but without the signs of illness they may have developed. And as far as Hela was concerned, her task was completed.
"It is done. The spirits return to the bodies, and, assuming your magic is correct, will not part from them until the proper time should come. As for you… remember our contract." She gave Sigyn a dark smile and turned to leave, disappearing among the shadows.

Sigyn watched what happened with an odd fascination. The feeling of magic lay thickly in the air. However, it was a kind of magic she had not felt before. Hela's magic, as dark as it could be. It seemed to be the pure essence of death, even though what it was going to produce was quite the opposite of death. As before, Sigyn was nervous, scared, impatient. She could not wait for her boys to return to their bodies. And eventually, exactly this happened. Vali and Narvi rose as if they had just suffered from a nightmare, gasping, inhaling, opening their beautiful eyes widely. Sigyn fell to her knees right between them. She did not think about bidding Hela goodbye or even thank her. Sigyn was thankful. They might have made a deal, but that did not change the fact that she appreciated Hela having taken it. Vali grumbled, rubbed his eyes, Narvi started to cry instantly. They looked pretty shaken. "Oh," Sigyn cried out and pulled both boys into a deep, tight hug. Hot tears ran down her face instantly, as she was putting kisses on the boys hair. Her lips tasted of soil instantly. "Oh, my beautiful babies," she cried out, rocking the boys. Grumpy, sleepy, dazed as they were, they returned the hug. The smaller Narvi - being six years old still - almost climbed Sigyn's lap as he was hanging his body against his mother's. Vali - still nine years of age -, leaned against Sigyn. They were tired and exhausted and no matter how much boys claimed to be men already, they's slip back into cuddling and turning to their loved ones when they needed it. "Mami, I'm hungry," Vali complained into his mother's neck. "I am tired and hungry," Narvi argued. "Of course you are," Sigyn cried happy tears, bending back in order to look at her sons. However, only VAli allowed a bit of distance. Narvi remained attached to Sigyn like a little monkey. "We shall go home and you'll have food and a bath and I'll tell you a story. You can sleep in our bed, my loves," Sigyn offered. Right now, Vali and Narvi could ask anything of her and she'd grant it. Anything. The thoughts about Loki and worries about how he'd take her deal were gone entirely. This moment was of bliss, nothing more. She had never felt more alive than this. "Come," she said, carrying Narvi as she got up, taking Vali's hand. Sigyn had made sure to come with a huge, strong horse, that'd carry all three of them. Together, they rode back home. She was sneaky, leading the boys through the many corridors, where nobody would find them. She had yet to make up a story about their return. Asgard could not know what had truly happened. The time of secrets was over, though. She'd discuss this with her husband. Sigyn put Narvi and Vali into the bathtub first, heating the water with her magic and a little help of Vali, who was already developing powers. She recalled his first attempts at magic, before he had fallen into sickness. He seemed to be holding his father's talent. She hoped for the same when it came to Narvi. All the while, she was kissing, hugging, touching her boys, who were still kind of grumpy, because of their exhaution. She told him they had been playing a lot, thus having gotten that dirty. After the bath, they shared a small meal in their salon, with cake and chicken and bread. The boys were almost falling asleep, but struggling to eat. Sigyn figured dying was making you quite hungry. After a short bedtime story, both boys had fallen asleep. Narvi was lying there with his arms next to his head, snoring with an open mouth, whereas Vali was curled up into a fetal position. They looked so awefully tiny in the huge bed. And so, as Sigyn watched her boys sleep, she cried her heart out silently. Happy tears, sad tears, tears of relief. She was not a crier, but this was just too much. She had been so involved in savouring the moment, that she almost did not hear the sound of the door to their salon, that was connected to the master bedroom. Sigyn rose in shock. She could not have Loki walk in on her and the boys. She kissed them, got out of bed and straightened her dress, wiped her tears away and made her way to the salon. Now, realization hit in. Still, she was relieved. She did not close the door to the bedroom, but ran towards Loki, fell around his neck as if her life depended on it. "My love," she sighed nearly dramatically, genuinely and put countless kisses on his face, that she was holding with her hands, "my prince.", she continued. Oh, now they were reunited again. As a family. Everything was perfect. Could be perfect, if Loki forgave her. Alas, he did not know who was sleeping in his bed just yet. He would soon. Still, she needed to be close right now. Not due to a guilty conscience, but the overwhelming love and affection she felt in this moment. This was going to be a long night.

Loki Laufeyson The day had been long and boring, as were many of Loki's days of late. Having been barred from leaving the palace for some time as punishment for his actions on Midgard, he was limited to the resources therein. Of course, there was plenty to do indoors, but the idea that he was barred from leaving made Loki more than a little irritated.
He spent the evening in his library, reading a few old books. He was and had always been a voracious reader. Especially now, when books were his window to outside worlds, helping him escape - if only in his mind - to some other place far more exciting than the building he had resided in for thousands of years.
As he grew sleepy, too sleepy to fight it much longer, he left the library and headed toward his and Sigyn's chambers. Since his return to Asgard, he had been more moody and brooding than before, and not only due to his punishment. Everything had gone as he had expected - he had killed Laufey and extinguished the Casket, saving the Midgardian city of New York. Why, then, had it all ended in this?
Laufey had run his mouth, for one. The giant had supposedly been his father; Loki certainly saw no resemblance. Laufey had been no different than any other Frost Giant, in Loki's eyes: big and dumb and itching for a fight. Loki was sophisticated, manipulative, intelligent, cunning. If those traits were genetic, then his mother must have been some kind of woman.
Also, Loki had not expected the return of Thor. To all appearances, he had not proven worthy yet. Also, Mjolnir had been too far away to be of any use. Sif's interference had changed that. Now the glory went to Thor, and, as always, the hate to Loki.
There was comfort in knowing Thor was still not king, though Loki had lost the position as well. Odin reigned again, having come out of his Odinsleep due to the battle happening on Midgard. The Allfather had been the one to sentence Loki to this pitiful punishment. Had Odin not learned that "grounding" Loki had no effect on anything? Loki need not be present to cause trouble; his magic knew few bounds. He could do as he wished from the comfort of his chambers.
For now, though, Loki was only scheming. There must be something he could do to permanently avert Thor's rule of Asgard, or else cause other troubles that would expose his brother's poor leadership qualities. Well, he had plenty of time to consider it.
He entered the salon and was making his way to their bedroom when Sigyn burst in and wrapped her arms around him with some sort of urgency. What new tragedy had befallen them? Loki suddenly felt extremely tired at the prospect of some new trouble. He could not take much more of it. But he wrapped his arms around Sigyn and held her tight.
"What is it, my love?" he asked as she covered his face in kisses. "Is something the matter?" Of course something was, he thought, for she would not have greeted him in such a manner if she had merely missed him. Pausing, he stole a quick kiss from her lips, that was meant to be comforting.
Yet which of them really needed the comfort?

She knew how bad he was feeling. His punishment bored him to pieces and so, it bored her. What he felt, she felt as well. Odin had been extremely generous and merciful with Sigyn. He knew how addicted she was to his son. Maybe, grounding Loki counted as grounding Sigyn just as well, for she'd never been far away from Loki to begin with. Oh, had the allfather known what she would do! Well, Sigyn had not known herself, until she had simply tried to go to Hel and had succeeded.
She had. And now, her sons were sleeping in their bed. Loki had yet to learn about this. She knew he was tired of the tragedies. And so was she. It was visible in his eyes, whole composure, yet he wanted to be strong for Sigyn. Her love for him could not possibly be any greater than it was right now, even though she should know better. With each day, it was still growing. "Yes, yes it is my love," she said, putting another kiss on his lips. Sigyn took his hand, put her finger over her mouth in order to tell him to keep quiet for now. Silent, bare feet made their way to their bedroom door. Sigyn lifted his hand, kissed his knuckles and smiled at him. Then, she stepped aside and opened the door to reveal the most beautiful picture. Narvi and Vali sleeping in the middle of their bed, dim candlelight painting their faces golden.

Following Sigyn into the room, led by sheer curiosity, he peered inside. What was it this time? Something in their bedroom? Had she brought them something, was this a tease? Whatever it was, he would know soon… as, without needing to be told, after Sigyn kissed his hand, his glance automatically went to their bed.
His first reaction was confusion. Vali and Narvi? It had to be them; they looked so beautiful in the dim light. No one could look as they did, no one could stir the emotions within him as the sight of them did. They were unmistakeable.
He took a few cautious steps forward. Indeed, not only were his boys in his bed, but they were alive, breathing lightly as little boys did. They were alive. The implications spun through Loki's head, faster and faster as each piece clicked together. Hela… magic… but at what cost?
Turning around, he went back to Sigyn, touching her collarbone gently with the backs of his fingers, pressing a kiss to the side of her neck. "Sigyn, my love…." He pulled her close, desperately, as though the truth would be found in her embrace. His voice was soft, almost a sob, caught between extreme joy and a bottomless fear.
"Sigyn, my precious love, my heart, my everything…. what have you done?"

Sigyn met him halfway, then, he was close to her, kissed her, almost pleaded. She read between the lines. Loki was scared. Scared Sigyn had done something horrible. Had she, now? She did not think so. She had not given away anyone's life. She had not sold Hela something that had not belonged to her to begin with, had she? And oh, what had she gained! Maybe, Loki was scared his boys had not returned his boys actually, but demons, zombies, ghosts or bad beings that were tainted by the all present stench of death. But neither was the case. Those were his sons in all their beauty. Sigyn closed her arms around him, it was her holding him, not the other way 'round. "I brought them back, to us, where they belong. Fear not, my love, for those are your sons as you remember them. There are as pure and innocent as they were when they have left.", Sigyn whispered. She then took Loki's face into her hands, lifted his head so he'd look at her. Her gaze spoke of gratitude, happiness, but also fear and anxiety. Most of all, it held undying love. "I made a deal. With Hela. I did not dare to ,-" she started to explain, when a tiny voice spoke. "Papi?," Vali asked, drunk of sleep. He had tossed a bit, but now, he was awake, rubbing his eyes as he looked at his parents. It seemed he had had a nightmare and needed some comfort. Sigyn looked at him, was about to rush over, but then realized, Vali had asked for his father. So she took a step back and let Loki have the moment she had enjoyed a couple of hours before.

The fear that gripped Loki had many faces, many reasons for existing. How had Sigyn managed to pull this off? Had she used her magic? Bargained with Hela? What was it she had gained? Were these truly their sons? What had Vali and Narvi been through? Had they been hurt? There were so many questions, and no answers yet. He fell silent as she held him, and listened to her explanation.
She confirmed that she had dealt with Hela. Loki did not know his daughter as well has he probably should have, as he had not been present much of the time to raise her. But he knew she was manipulative, and, more than that, enjoyed the pain and suffering of others, including her father and stepmother. Perhaps especially her father and stepmother. Loki was certain there was no love there for him, and perhaps even jealousy toward the brothers. He did not trust Hela to have brought them back so simply.
He studied Sigyn a bit. Had she gone a little crazy? This was so unbelievably risky, and would take so much explanation, that he wondered whether grief had driven her mad. How much had she considered before she had done this? Loki was a planner, plotted every single possibility before he did just about anything. This felt more instinctive, with no thought for the future…. or for anyone else.
But before Loki could question her further, Vali called for him. Vali. The voice was the same. He had never expected to hear it again, at least, not in this realm. Sigyn stepped forward first, and Loki was going to let her handle it, but then she stopped, and Loki went forward instead.
"It's all right, Vali. Mami and papi are here." He carefully brushed his hand over his son's forehead. Immediately he felt a bit of his old self return, felt some of that pent-up anger lessen. The boys had always had that effect on him. His instinct as a father had already decided that yes, these were his boys, as though they had not been separated by death for thousands of years. He wanted to believe.
Cautiously, he leaned down to kiss Vali's forehead. At the same time, he squeezed Vali's little hand lightly, just as he had so often in the past. It felt all so natural. Once the boy was asleep again, Loki turned to Sigyn, but did not approach her this time. He took a few steps away from the bed so as not to wake the boys.
"Sigyn," he said, his voice less pleading than before. "Please, tell me what deal you and Hela made."

Her heart bloomed as she watched the scene. A scene she had witnessed often, yet it felt as though it was the first time. Watching Loki handle his sons had been a beautiful thing and it still was. The way he calmed Vali so quickly was the most natural thing, exactly as it should be. Vali mumbled something incomprehensible as Loki kissed him and soon, the boy was asleep again.
But now, Loki was not that affectionate anymore. Sigyn had it coming, she knew that. And she owed him an explanation. Had she gone mad? Part of her had. Part of her had lost its sanity when her sons had died, taking every option of choice from her when it came to Narvi and Vali. Even though being more impulsive by nature, Loki had taught her the art of comtemplation, reason and planning. Still, Hela had done well. The moment she had seen her boys' ghosts, her decision had been clear. Actually, it had been before. There was no reason, no planning, nothing, as long as she had her boys with her.
"Come," Sigyn said, lowering her head and left the room. She was not going to discuss this next to the sleeping princes. After having closed the door, she stopped in the middle of the room. It was Loki's decision to approach or stay distant, even though Sigyn needed him close, needed to be reassured that she had not destroyed their relationship. Now, for the first time, this thought truly occured to her and sent shivers down her spine. "I traveled to Hel in my astral body, overcoming Hela's ban. She returned our sons to us on two conditions. On the day we pass - whenever this day may come - our souls will belong to her. Yours and mine. And...........I have to bring her Thor within a year. Otherwise, she will,..." Sigyn explained, but could not finish. She could only hope Loki'd understand what the consequence could be. Uttering that her boys would be taken away from her..not possible.
Sigyn did not bother to urge him to understand, to remember that both of them most likely would go to Hel anyway. She did not want to argue and beg yet, because she had made this deal and for now, it was Loki's prerogative to make his mind up about it. He had seen her suffering all those years, missing her sons. A suffering that knew no bounds, no words, no comfort. Maybe, he'd understand, for he had suffered, too.
Most likely however, she'd beg and plead for forgiveness, should Loki refuse her such. Yes, she needed her boys. The gap they had left in her heart had been devastating. But if Loki left, he'd leave a hole as big.

The more time passed without an explanation, the more Loki felt like demanding one. His patience had already been running low thanks to his long and boring day, but now the fear made it run thinner, and the way Sigyn had him follow her out of the room before speaking further did not help matters. Then again, it made him wonder just how bad the news she had to share with him would be. Did she expect him to start yelling?
Once she began to explain, he calmed down for a moment, only for the anxiety to rise again the next moment as she went on. He could guess what Hela's punishment for not fulfilling her terms would be. It was actually fairly entertaining for Loki to imagine Thor in Hel, but the part about his soul unsettled him. Yes, he did aspire to Valhalla. No, he was not foolish enough to think that wish would be fulfilled. But still… for him to have no say over the matter…. bothered him.
He took a seat in the nearest chair, and sighed, his face resting in his palm. Then he looked up at her and, reaching forward, pulled her into his lap. "You sold my soul," he said, not whining, just stating a fact. "You did so without consulting me at all. Do you understand why this upsets me?"
Lightly, he touched her face, brushed an errant strand of hair away. "Why did you not ask for my help? We could have done this together…. You could at least have told me." Whether he would have stopped her, he did not know, but it did not matter, since the boys were here, and no one was going to reverse that.
Oddly, he was proud of her as well, fir accomplishing a feat like slipping past Hela's ban, and making a deal with her. Yet he did not say so, not yet. He closed his eyes and tried to sort out his thoughts, before responding any further.

The scariest situation commenced. Sigyn had no idea how he'd react. In fact, she would not have been surprised if he yelled at her. Loki rarely yelled at her and he had never laid a hand on her again after that one fateful night shortly after they had gotten married.
The seconds passed like hours, until Loki reacted. But he did not yell. He did not even look at her with disgust or repulsion in his eyes. Instead, he sat down and sighed. This was not too bad. Of course, she did not expect him to be entirely happy with what she had done. She had only hoped the love for his sons and her overcame every hurt she had caused him by making this decision alone.
The moment he took her hand, Sigyn almost fell into his lap, cradled herself against him and held on tightly. Her big blue eyes gazed at him, waiting for what was to come. Sigyn was still scared. The feelings raining down on her during the last twenty four ours had just been too overwhelming. Briefly, she closed her eyes as he brushed that strand of hair out of her face. "I do, my love, oh, I do." she begged him, being close to tears again. Usually, Sigyn would be absolutely mad at herself for being such a whiny wench for such a long period of time, but she cut herself all the slack she was capable of cutting, given the circumstances. "I know I should have. Nothing has ever been as hard as excluding you, as I have never done so, but my fear of being refused overcame me. Narvi, Vali, you.......I live and breathe for all of you. Loki, I....I am nothing without you. But the loss of the boys, I.....once I realized there might be a chance to make things right, I just acted. I never had to do so, but I ask...beg you to forgive me for keeping you in the dark. Please.", Sigyn begged him. It did not seem like he was going to grow cold towards her, due to her conduct. But he had to know that this was an exception to the rule, to Sigyn not informing her about her plans, to Sigyn making such decisions on her own. It would be the only exception.

What did Sigyn deserve for these strange actions of hers? She could not be allowed to think that she could simply give his soul away and not be punished for it. Yet as he looked at her, he saw pain in her eyes, pain and worry, fear, anxiety, such things as should never have been there. The journey must have been difficult - facing Hela, coming back with the boys. He could see it written all over her face, in every soft line, and in her eyes.
Perhaps she had already been punished enough. If so, then what would his doing so accomplish? She had learned her lesson, according to her words. And Loki had never known her to lie to him. Moreover, he could spot a liar well, and she was being genuine.
"You have suffered…" He drew his hand along her face, one finger idling along her nose and down her lips. "…enough."
He nudged her a little closer, if that were even possible. "Please, my love, do not do such a thing again. I have trusted you, and I wish that not to change."
With another sigh, he ran a hand through her hair. "I forgive you, Sigyn."

This was the reason why she had married this man. No matter how much of a trickster, liar and cause of trouble he was to lots of people, he was the kindest, sweetest and noble man towards her. A relationship did not mean an eye for an eye. It meant cherishing the other and also, the other's faults and mistakes. In all the millenia they had been married, Sigyn had never betrayed him. And in all this time, nothing had destroyed her like the deaths of their sons had. Now, this might have been an unfortunate series of events, but Sigyn was not perfect. And she had indeed suffered. Loki acknowledged this and he forgave her. "You know you can trust me," Sigyn said, "Always." While she was putting slow kisses on his face, she continued to explain. "I did not hesitate to confess to you, we have only been here for a couple of hours, I,-....please, know that lying to you about this has not been easy. On the contrary. I,-". But Sigyn stopped. He had already forgiven her. There was no rage in his eyes. She cupped his cheek with her hand, holding his sweet, enticing gaze, the gaze that made her melt, the gaze that told her things would be okay in the end. Still, there was something else she needed to get off her chest. Sigyn did not know whether it'd be kind of her to tell him, instead of giving him time to digest the news and eventually enjoy the reunion with his sons. But she also did not want to keep information from him she would usually have shared right away. Especially since it involved his innermost, too. "There is more, Loki," Sigyn said, suddenly sounding quite severe and....sad. "Before I left Hel, Hela said something. She,......she suggested that my mother put a curse on me, causing every child growing in my womb to............die early." Her hand still on his face, she watched his reaction. Sigyn had not realized how she had slowly started to shake.

All was well between them, it seemed. But then Sigyn warned him that there was more. He braced himself for more bad news. What was it this time? Were the boys truly zombies? Was there something else wrong with them? Now that he knew what he did about himself, he realized both boys were half Jotunn. How would that change things?
But no, she explained quickly. According to Hela, Freia was the cause of their children's deaths. He had known the woman was jealous, but to curse her own grandchildren…? Her only grandchildren? It was madness. It could not be true. Yet he understood Hela well enough to realize why it must be true.
"Hela knows much. She has a way of knowing things she should not." Loki frowned. "And she is not so petty as to make up a lie. She would gladly taunt you with the truth, but she would not stoop so low…." He paused.
"We can find out…. A simple spell will reveal any curses on us." He said 'us' and not 'you,' for though the curse would have been cast on Sigyn, it affected him just as deeply.
And what if there was a curse? What would he do then? He would… have to sort it out with Sigyn. After all, Freia remained her mother. Any other person would have suffered death or worse. But even Loki found it difficult to harm the woman who had given life to his princess.

If Freia had been the root of all this evil and all this pain, Loki would have to pin Sigyn down and hold her back, because she'd march right out of this room, find her mother and skin her alive, inch by inch, slowly, painfully, until Freia would beg Sigyn to kill her. She'd peel off layer by layer, making death as painful for her mother as she could. She'd torture her, for years, for millenia, she'd....the extent of her desire for retaliation knew no bounds. They had once talked about their violent fantasies. But the fantasy in Sigyn's thoughts right now exceeded everything she had thought being capable of thinking.
The only thing that might keep Sigyn in this wing of the palace for now was lying in the other room, sleeping, needing to be taken care of. The boys needed their own rooms, clothing, toys, all the things children needed. They needed their mother to be a parent, not a raging accumulation of revenge.
"I would love to say that I cannot believe my mother to be that cruel, but I.....can't," Sigyn said, gazing down to his chest. She heaved a long sigh, was she supressing tears or anger. "I would have loved for this moment to be more carefree. Just a few days of enjyoing our sons, but....I believe Hela enjoyed giving me this information."
A moment of pause, of contemplation, then Sigyn looked up. "We have a lot on our plates right now. We need to figure out so much. I will not have a clear mind for this if I do not know for sure." He was Loki, Prince of Asgard, the greatest sorcerer known in the nine realms. "Do it," Sigyn said, nodding as she closed her hand around his, putting it on her stomach, "Find out."
The next moments would be changing her life yet again. Sigyn was not even remotely close to understanding the amount of emotions the upcoming news would cause.

Neither could Loki imagine Freia not being that cruel. That sort of curse seemed right up her alley, in terms of what she would do. But was she powerful enough to have cast it? No matter, for Loki was certainly powerful enough to remove it. No one could match Loki's power.
Of course Hela had enjoyed telling Sigyn of this curse. That explained what she had really gotten out of the deal, aside from two souls and a Thunderer. It was disgusting, but then, she was not the one to have cursed them in the first place.
As Sigyn placed his hand on her stomach, he drew a small thread of power from within himself and let it grow, enveloping Sigyn within its glow. It was gold at first, but quickly turned dark, a darker black than one could fathom. Loki frowned. There was a curse, old but powerful, and centered around her lower torso.
"There is a spell cast. A very dark spell. I cannot tell who cast it, but it has existed for years upon years. Since about when we married." He frowned. "I recognize parts of it. The caster likely assembled it from books she had read, or had some other kind of assistance."
He lifted his hand, and the black glow vanished. The sight of it around his wife was sickening. He may not have been able to tell who cast the spell, but he was not familiar with Freia's magic. It was possible Sigyn might see something unique in the spell herself.
"I can undo the spell." To him there was no question as to whether he should do this. The fact that it had gotten this far… if it had indeed been Freia, he wanted to watch her life end slowly, in the most horrific pain known to gods. But, again, he was bound by that tenuous familial link. Or, more accurately, his concern for Sigyn and what the loss might do to her. Would it be like losing his biological father had been, by his own hand…?
He met Sigyn's gaze, took her hand and squeezed it. "This offense cannot go unanswered."
