Loki's skill seemed to know no bounds. Sigyn would not even have known how to detect a spell cast upon her. Moreover, even if she had known, her magic simply was not enough for this. It was good she had Loki by her side, who happened to be a magnificent sorcerer, in addition to being a wonderful husband.
The thread of magic wove itself around her middle, shining brightly around her. Not for long, for it turned the darkest of blacks pretty soon. Loki did not even have to say something. Sigyn knew what was going on. She held her breath and stared at the blackness that proved the spell to be existent.
So, indeed, she had been cursed. Curse to bear children that had no chance from the start. Vali and Narvi had been doomed to pass away early, before they even had been born. It was disgusting. Being jealous, despising your own daughter was cruel enough, but involving your grandchildren in this made Sigyn sick to her stomach. If her mother had been the origin of the spell. That had not been proven yet.
"Get it off," Sigyn whispered slowly, as Loki stated his opinion. She barely heard him. "Get it off me. Take it away," she said, despair creeping into her voice. She trembled, cold sweat covered her body. She had never felt more repulsed by her own body, a graveyard made flesh, a pit of death. It might not have been her doing, it might not have been her body causing this, but it was the bearer of this curse. "By Odin, take it off," she cried out hysterically, her forehead lying in a deep frown of fear, repulsion and angst. Sigyn had a hard time to remain in his lap. It felt as though a thousand bugs were crawling underneath her skin. She felt absolutely dirty and stained. She did not have a mind to wrap around consequence and perpetrators yet, she needed this spell taken away and she needed it now.

The spell was not actively doing Sigyn any harm, so Loki felt more concerned about finding out who was behind it. The caster had not left any way of identifying themselves. It would take guesswork. Hela had already provided them with a suspect, and since she had been right about the curse's existence, it followed that she was right about the perpetrator. If so, Loki would stop at nothing until justice was done - not through law or courts, but through his and Sigyn's own will.
He heard the despair in her voice, felt her tremble, and wrapped his arms around her. He could undo the spell, but where should he start? He was trying to sort out all the pieces when she cried out. Looking at her in alarm, he decided what course he should take. For there were only two things that could defeat such dark magic: even darker magic, or the magic of pure love.
Pulling her close, he ran a hand over her stomach, barely touching her, then over her chest and around to her back and over the rest of her body. Where his hand went, the black mingled with purple and then disappeared. The creepy feeling would begin to dissipate, "Shh," he soothed, as his hand came to rest on her cheek. He repeated the revealing spell, and this time the black was gone, the soft glow golden and pure. "It's gone. It's gone."
It had been that simple, all this time. Now they could have children with little fear of them dying young. Would Sigyn want to, now? Of course, they had Narvi and Vali back, but perhaps they would have more, someday. Now that they could.
He did not mention this now, however. They had been through enough this evening. He held her tight to him, her head on his shoulder, trying hard to be comforting. "It's okay. Everything will be okay."

She should get her act together. Many responsibilities were on her - on their - plate right now. There was no time for losing her sanity, Narvi, Vali and Loki needed her and moreover, there was someone who had to be punsihed for this curse.
But things did not always go the way they had to go. Every inch of Sigyn's skin was itching. It almost felt like her skin was itching on the inside. She felt disgusting. Luckily, taking the spell off was not big of an effort to her husband, he had taken it off her quickly, just like he was making sure it was gone by using the revealing spell on her again. A moment after, when he was holding her, Sigyn started to shake. It was not a remble resulting from coldness or emotional pain, it was quite weird. She almost shook like a rattlesnake, like an illusion, as if she were flickering. It only lasted a few seconds, but Loki would not have missed it.
It made feel Sigyn weird. As if something familiar had shook her, like a hug ending, a hug by someone you knew well. For just a moment, she even felt like she missed something worthwile, something important. But this reaction, this consequence revealed one thing: The magic - or part of it - that had put that curse on her was familiar. Too familiar. Like the scent of someone close to you appearing out of nowhere.
Sigyn blinked, hugged her body and gasped. "It was her. I felt it. It had to be her. I felt her magic's hold loosen.", she said. Sigyn got up in a haste. "You have to call the guards. She might know. She might have felt the curse break. We cannot allow for her to go into hiding," she hurried to say, pacing up and down. If he asked her how she felt, she would not even be able to tell. Sigyn scratched her skin on her hands, on her collarbone, wanted to scratch more, but her dress was in the way. A dress too tight. Almost frantically, she started to untie the many ties that held her dress together, the slight corset shaping her body. But she was too hasty, too nervous. Her breath grew heavy, like some invisible hand was choking her. Sigyn's body was in awkwardly tense and bent position, while she continued to try and get rid of her dress. "I can't breathe," she panted, eventually tearing at the fabric in order to get it off her body.
And in this moment, Sigyn positively thought that she was going to lose her mind over this.

Everything seemed to be fine, until Sigyn shuddered. Loki not only saw the tremble, but felt it as well. It was a strange action, inexplicable. She stood up and began to pace, telling him that it had been Freia. Loki believed it; he felt completely unsurprised. It all made sense now, as much as putting a curse on one's own daughter and grandchildren made sense.
Sigyn started to hyperventilate, tearing at her clothes as though they imprisoned her. For a moment, Loki stared helplessly, wondering what in the Nine she was doing. He stood up and went to her as she ripped the fabric. Loki took her hands and held them away from her. She was going to hurt herself before too long.
"Shh," he repeated softly, while undoing her dress enough to loosen it around her. His touch was innocent this time, intending only to help her feel more comfortable.
"We will leave it for the morning. She may run, but there is nowhere in the nine realms or beyond she can go. She cannot hide from me."
A flicker of anger lit his eyes, and his expression hardened for a moment, then softened as he squeezed her hand. "We will figure out how best to approach this." He did not want to rush in without a plan. They could not simply accuse Freia; it might have no effect.
"Our sons await our company." Those were words he had never thought he'd say again. But they needed their parents, to be attentive and loving, as best they could. He looked at her, trying to read her again, hoping she had calmed down enough to listen to him.

"No," Sigyn exclaimed in a haste, as she was finally able to take her dress off, thanks to Loki's assistance, "No, I will not risk that! We need to arrest her now. NOW!", she cried, more in anger than in agony.
She wanted to go into that bedroom and cuddled with her sons, badly. But she felt that flame of anger and absolute rage burning so brightly in front of her, that she could not possibly fathom facing her sons in this state. "I want her in chains and I want it now!", she complained again, her voice shaking with aggression. Of course, she was not mad at Loki. She just could not handle the amount of feelings she had gone through during the last couple of hours. Even if Narvi and Vali had not returned, the news about this curse would have shaken her. And now that she was with her sons, knowing what her and Loki had gone through, knowing what the boys had endured, she could not handle it.
Even without the dress, Sigyn still felt as dirty as she had before. She kept on scratching her skin, tearing at her underdress. In a rush she headed for the bathing chamber, leaving the door open, where she got rid of her dress. She got a cloth, put it in water and started to wash her face, her arms, her stomach. Frantically, the cloth moved over her skin. It was barely wet, leaving red traces of irritated skin wherever she scrubbed herself. But Sigyn did not stop. She needed that dirt and that anger gone. But it did not vanish. Her eyes, now fully golden, were glowing. It seemed as though an air of magic was around her.
With a loud noise, the mirror, as well as the porcelain bowl in front of it, burst. Sigyn was still panting, but the explosion did not seem to keep her from scrubbing her skin. And actually, the princess was one second short of getting dressed and leaving in order to kill her own mother.

Was there anything Loki could do to set Sigyn at ease? He wanted to embrace her, but was certain she would simply peel him off, as intent as she was on peeling off her own skin. His concern was not Freia, but Sigyn's own well-being. He had never seen her like this. She was close to losing it all, and all over her mother. Could she not see that she had her sons back, and should simply be happy for that?
He followed her to the bathchamber, watched her scrub at herself. This did not ease his worries. The explosion of the items made him jump, and pushed him into action. He approached her carefully and took the cloth from her hand, then entwined his fingers with hers so she would have to stop scratching herself at least long enough to pay him full attention.
"If you let yourself fall apart over this, she will have won. She will have destroyed the essence of you, stolen you away from those who love and need you most. I will not let that happen. I will not." Forgetting his fears, he pulled her close, and let one hand go so he could dip the cloth in water again. Then he dabbed the cloth along her skin, his touch much more gentle than hers had been.
"Remember the night we were reunited, the first night we spent together? You climbed into the bath after me, in your underclothes, and I thought you were absolutely mad. Your presence was a comfort to me then. Let me be a comfort to you now."
Lightly he kissed the side of her neck, and continued to draw the cloth along her skin. Had there been less strife and upset around and within them, it could have been a beautiful moment. Perhaps it still was.

Loki had to put up with quite a struggling Sigyn, but eventually, she gave in. The tension, the fight of her body eased and turned into something quite the opposite. Sigyn leaned against Loki, embraced him, held on to him, as if the answers to all questions lay in that particular embrace. She sighed, sobbed, sighed again. Yet, she did not cry. She just hold him tighter and tighter, letting him rub her skin in that gentle touch. But when she closed her eyes, it almost felt like everything was spinning. So, she held on tighter. This man's embrace had power like nothing else. It had always comforted her. And so it did, right now.
Loki's words got to her. He was right. She could not afford to lose her mind and moreover, she did not want her mother to win. Freia had succeeded with too much already. "I should have known. I should have noticed. How could I not have noticed?", Sigyn whispered against his skin. "I feel as though I am losing my mind," she added. She was a sorcerer herself, happened to be married to one of the best sorcerers the nine realms had ever seen, yet she - they - had spent aeons not realizing that Sigyn had been cursed. That their sons had been victim to this curse. How could they not have known. Sigyn felt so angry, that it was taking every ability to deal with the situation reasonably from her. "Talk to me, please. Otherwise I do not know what I will do. I want to rip her apart so badly, you have no idea," she begged against his skin.

If she asked, Loki would hold Sigyn for all eternity, especially if it would help her feel better. Yet should they blame themselves for not having noticed? Who would have thought to check for such a curse on either of them? Certainly, the boys' deaths had been without explanation, but that was not uncommon. He had been upset, inconsolable, but he would never have thought to blame their seemingly innocent deaths on another.
He had an idea of how angry Sigyn was. He was furious himself. It just happened that he had more practice keeping things inside, and the fact that it was her mother, the woman who had raised her and who should have loved her children no matter what.
"I think often of our wedding day," he confided, because she had wanted him to talk, and that was one of the first things that came to mind. "You are always beautiful, but the look on your face made you stunning. It is one of my favorite memories." He held her close even though her damp skin left his own clothes wet, for such a small matter was nothing to him in this moment.
"When I saw that you had brought back our sons… I was afraid, at first. Afraid of what this might mean for us, for them, for our family. But I was - and am - proud of you, Sigyn. You have done well. They are just as I remember them." He stroked her face, his gaze meeting hers. "When you are ready, we will decide whether to confront her now, or leave it for the morning. We will handle the matter as you wish." He preferred to wait, confident as he was that Freia could not run, but if Sigyn felt more comfortable taking care of the matter now, he would have guards arrest the woman before the clock chimed the next hour.

Sigyn winced when he started to talk, a weird movement, a weird noise between sobbing, snarling and growling. She remembered that day, even though it was aeons away. She had never in her life been tat nervous, yet that impatient and excited. Sigyn liked to look nice, but she was not vain. However, she had Greta check on her wedding dress every three minutes. When she had been called to finally join the ceremony, it had taken her every nerve - and her father's help - not to simply run towards Loki, yell her vows and just fall around his neck. It had been a beautiful ceremony. "It felt as if I had waited for that day for all my life. Now, I know I have been waiting indeed. I could not have wished for a better life than the one you gave me," Sigyn whispered against his skin, her voice still sounding tense, but much softer than before. He'd feel her ripcage rising and falling faster than usual, giving away her inner turmoil. Still, she felt less inclined to rush out of this chamber and chop her mother's head off.
Sigyn then looked up to meet his gaze, her lower lip trembling. Was she about to cry or about to yell and lose her temper? She did not even know herself. "No," she said urgently, "No, I do not wish for this terrible woman to spend one more moment walking Asgard as she pleases. She deserve so much worse than being in chains." Sigyn's face turned into a frown. Her facial expression alone was seeming to beg Loki. "Please, my love. If I faced her now, I'd kill her. I'd rip her apart limb by limb. Send the guards. I beg you," Sigyn said. She could technically call the guards herself, but she wanted him in on this. "I wish to calm down and spend the night reunited. I will not be able to do that, knowing she lies in a soft bed instead of a cell." Sigyn squeezed his upper arms. She doubted he'd decline her wish on this.

For a moment, Loki smiled at the memory they shared. He had never expected to be married; or, if he had, it would have been out of duty, not for love. He had never thought himself capable of loving anyone. Yet the capacity was there, for he did love his family, despite everything. But this… what he felt for Sigyn was different, and he could hardly explain it.
He stroked her skin as he felt her chest heave, hoping to calm her down at least a little. But it seemed nothing would calm her but the arrest of Freia. Reaching for a towel, he wrapped it around Sigyn and kissed her cheek. Normally, he would have simply yelled for the guards, but with their sons sleeping peacefully in the next room, he decided to be more discreet.
If Sigyn followed him, she would see Loki move through the salon to their main door, the one that led to the rest of the palace. Outside, guards were stationed; he was not sure whether they still stood there for his protection or to make sure he did not leave, but in either case, their position happened to be very convenient. In a low voice, he gave them their orders, and they left, in search of Freia for undisclosed crimes.
"It is done," he said upon returning to Sigyn, pulling her into his arms again. "They will search the city if need be, but if she has run, she cannot have gotten far." Rocking her gently, he pressed his cheek against hers. "They will report to me when she is arrested. Now if you can, try to relax." His words were gentle, but barely masked the concern he felt.

Somehow, Sigyn was sorry. Loki did not feel great at the moment, being under Thor's command and supervision. And now, she was making things worse, was she not? Sigyn knew it was not her fault. She had returned their boys and that was prone to make him happy. She could not possibly have expected Hela to tell her what she had told her. But it had to be taken care of. They would not be Loki and Sigyn if they let one obstacle after the other get them down. With the boys in the other room, Sigyn wanted to make things right and be strong. With the news about Freia and all the would-have-beens that now ruled her mind, she felt terrible. Sigyn had never felt this strong and weak at the same time. She needed Loki to guide her through this. For better and for worse they had sworn. This was both at the same time.
While he was gone, she got dressed in one of her long nightgowns. She quickly kissed both Narvi and Vali, that had entirely occupied the right side of the large master bed. Narvi still lay there with his arms next to his head and his legs extended, while VAli was curled up into a ball. They were sleeping soundly, snoring even. She felt calmer seeing the boys. Maybe this was a good thing. She'd lose her temper soon enough.
It did not take them long to embrace again once he returned. Sigyn squeezed him, sighed. Her anger was not gone yet, so was her inner turmoil. It'd probably remain for quite a while. "I have never needed you more, my love," she confessed, "If not for you, I'd fear for my sanity." Sigyn sighed, but eventually, leaned back. "I want her to suffer. By law or by mischief. I want her to suffer eternally." For what it was all worth, for all the insanity going on with her, Sigyn had never sounded more sincere, more in charge of her mind. She meant it. And she'd mean it in the morning.

In the morning, Loki expected he would have to explain his actions to Odin and Thor. They would think he was up to mischief again, whatever mischief could involve his mother-in-law. But then again, the fact that his sons were suddenly back would possibly overshadow whatever it was he and Sigyn would do to Freia while she was in captivity. What an interesting night, in both the best and worst of ways, this had turned out to be….
She was dressed by the time he returned to her, and she seemed a bit more reassured, if not relaxed. His hand grazed over her face and through her hair, and he held her tight. "We will find a way, Sigyn. We will uncover her deepest fears, and give her into the most terrifying torture we can imagine, for the rest of her days. She deserves no less."
Indeed, Freia had displayed some real nerve in challenging not only a prince, but her own daughter and a princess of Asgard. It was only fair that she be repaid in kind. It would take some real creativity to come up with her punishment.
He would sleep on it, if he proved able to sleep at all. "For now, my love, let us retire. It has been an eventful evening." A bit of tiredness was beginning to settle in, and he figured that by the time they were ready for bed, the guards would have returned with their news, leaving them to sleep in peace, or something resembling it, at least.

This was exactly what Sigyn was talking about. She leaned into his touch, closed her eyes. She'd have plenty of time to ponder Freia's torture. If they were lucky, Odin and Thor would leave the decision about the exact punishment to Loki and Sigyn, given that they had been the ones suffering from Freia's deeds. If not - and in case Odin decided on a punishment too mild - they'd have to find their way around it. They were sorceres, by Yddrasil, they'd make it happen, somehow.
Sigyn nodded, kissed his palm and while Loki got changed, she already climbed into bed, curled up next to Narvi. She put her arm across her little boy, reaching out to Vali. So when Loki appeared, he saw his wife with both his sons in her arms, resting in bed. All that was missing was him. And even though Sigyn cuddled against him as well, feeling quite warm and content about this situation, she would barely sleep that night.
She was up shortly before the sun rose. Loki was either still sleeping, or pretending to be. Narvi and Vali were still passed out. Sigyn could not help but check on their breathing and pulses, the impression of seeing them die still lying heavily on her. She took a short bath, impatient to welcome her family good morning, eager to shove the thought about Freia aside. But as she was wrapping her towel around her body, Sigyn had a sudden epiphany. Her feet were leaving wet footsteps on the floor as she was hurrying into the bedroom, where she sat at the edge of the bed, gently shaking Loki's shoulder. "My love," she whispered, "My love wake up, I need to talk to you." This could not wait for soon, Asgard would wake up and questions would arise. She did not want to hide Narvi and VAli in their chambers, yet they had to come up with an explanation and they had to do it quickly. Maybe, Sigyn had just had the right idea.

As expected, the guards returned just as Loki finished dressing, and, upon his answering the door, explained that Freia had been detained and was being held in one of the palace cells. She had not been difficult to find at all. That was a bit strange to Loki, but he did not question it. They would speak to Freia in the morning, and gauge where her head was at. Probably somewhere in the clouds.
The night passed uneventfully; the boys slept peacefully, and though it took a long time for Loki to fall asleep, he did eventually, thanks in part to Sigyn's embrace. Once he was asleep, he slept deeply, dreamlessly. He did not usually remember his dreams, but this night he was certain passed without them.
He woke up to Sigyn's touch, shaking him lightly. "Hmmm," he murmured as he slowly woke up. Her words began to register with him. "Yes? What is it, dearest?" he asked, sitting up in bed, talking quietly so as not to disturb their sleeping sons. His sons - it took a moment to register with him that they were not in the past, and everything that had happened that past evening returned to mind. There was much to do this morning.

"Not here," she urged him, throwing a brief glance at the boys. She walked around the bed, to the side they were sleeping on and kissed them. Vali pulled a face. It seemed it would not take him too long to wake up. Sigyn would love to remain and kiss and cuddle and have Vali tell her off, because he was grumpy in the morning, but there was not time for this yet.
There'd be plenty mornings like these. Plenty chances to be affectionate with her sons. Now was not the time. Sigyn could not wait to see them grow up finally, become young men, turn into warriors, sorcerers or whatever they pleased. Chuckle when they fancied someone for the first time, be a shoulder to cry on if they so wished. Now, it would all be happening. Loki and her just had to bring Thor to Hela, but they'd take care of that.
Sigyn left the room then, waiting for a sleepy Loki to catch up with her. As soon as he did, she closed the door to the bedroom. Sigyn was wide awake, wet hair sticking to her shoulders. "I have a solution," she revealed, "We found out about the curse randomly. We removed it and with its removal, all its effects vanished. Such as Vali and Narvi having passed. Spell revoked, deaths revoked. No questions asked. No one needs to know about Hela. And no one will believe Freia if she so decides to argue with our story. If she even knows it did not happen that way. I know her magic. She might not even have known what exactly she has done. She might even have had an ally. What do you think?"
