Have You Read the Rules?: HULK SMASH! Yes, even gods.
Appearance:
For a Frost Giant, Loki is extremely small, but his stature is just about right for an Asgardian. Unlike most Asgardian males, though, he is very slender, with less defined muscle than the average male. At six foot four, he is a fairly tall god, but towers over many humans. His hair is black, and falls to his shoulders, bone straight or with a slight flip. His face is long and angular, with pronounced features, including deep green eyes.
He dresses in dark shades, green and black being his primary colors. As part of his battle attire, he often wears a gold helmet with curled horns atop it. Through his illusions and shapeshifting, he can change his appearance easily, but his "mortal" form usually does not stray far from his usual one. When appearing as a Frost Giant, his stature remains the same, but his skin turns blue, with deep ridges etched in, and his eyes glow red. This, however, is not a common form of his.
Personality:
Usually, Loki is very collected, using reason to dictate his actions, and keeping his thoughts to himself. He remains in control of his emotions, forcing them down within himself where he thinks they cannot affect him. Domineering and strong-willed, he does not allow others to know when they have affected him, whether for better or worse. He keeps most others at arm's length, refusing to let them know the deeper, less rational parts of his psyche.
Occasionally, he becomes quite reckless, when his emotions get the best of him. In these moments, he acts without thinking, going after only his present needs with no thought for the future. These brief excursions have often gotten him into trouble and led to his plans falling apart. He is aware of this, but has been unable to stop himself from indulging in his bottled-up feelings from time to time.
Deep inside, Loki lacks the self-confidence he needs, resulting in him desperately seeking approval and validation from others, especially Odin and Thor. He has always felt like an outcast, even without being aware of the circumstances surrounding his birth. His search for acceptance has never been successful, leading to feelings of confusion and hurt, which, festering, are developing into hate for others and dissatisfaction with himself. One would never know it from looking at him, though, and that is by his own specific design.
Likes:
Dislikes:
- Control- Loki likes to have complete control over any situation. He does not allow room for guesswork and is very rarely spontaneous.
- Deference- He revels in his status as a god and prince, and expects others to show respect for his position as befits their stations.
- Mind games- He loves toying with the minds and emotions of others, whether they allow him to or not. Bonus: He's very good at it.
- Traveling- Seeing new places is entertaining for him, as he loves to learn and continues to do so when he travels.
- Reading- A good book is good company, and is the best way for Loki to keep his mind going without being constantly moving.
Strengths:
- Appeals to emotion- Loki's mind runs on logic. Any attempt to debate or reason with him using emotions will be ignored.
- Gluttony- Certain forms of greed disgust him, even though he can be quite greedy himself.
- Humorless people- He doesn't like those who don't appreciate jokes and pranks, especially his own.
- Psychology- While he is interested in the subject itself, such as it is, he hates being analyzed.
- The unintelligent- He has little patience for those who do not attempt to seek knowledge, who are happy wallowing complacently in what he sees as a pointless state.
Weaknesses:
- Intelligent- Considered by many to be a genius, Loki is incredibly smart, and can think quickly.
- Clever- He is also very crafty, able to work with any resources at his disposal to get what he wants.
- Driven- When Loki sets a goal, there is no stopping him until he sees it to completion.
- Creative- The pranks and plans he thinks of can be incredibly ingenious and original.
- Thoughtful- He can be attentive and caring when he wishes to be, usually only toward those he cares about. In any other case, it's probably trickery.
Skills:
- Impatient- Despite being able to plot events far into the future, he is never able to wait for them to come around.
- Easily bored- Because his mind is usually racing, he finds it difficult to be at rest.
- Aggressive- He can occasionally be overly forceful, if that is what it takes for him to get his way.
- Selfish- Loki's concerns for himself come first; all others come after, if he has the time and energy for them.
- Slow to forgive- He remembers everything and bears grudges for just about everything, despite being fully aware that this is unhealthy.
Flaws:
- Observation- Loki sees things that others do not, understands them better than others do, and remembers them more easily than others do.
- Stealthy- Even without his abilities, Loki is very sneaky and crafty, and can get around easily without being detected.
- Lying- Loki is skilled at persuading others of mistruths, and has duped many of his acquaintances many times over.
- Obsessive- He strives for perfection in everything, and cant stop until he attains it.
- Envious- His jealousy of Thor gets in the way of much of his planning, ruining his perception and ultimately the plan itself.
- Pride- He must do everything himself, or at least be the organizer. He finds it difficult to ask for and accept help.
Skills and Abilities:
Superhuman Attributes: This group of abilities give Loki greater strength, durability, speed, and longevity. He heals quickly, and most bullets have no effect on him. Still, it is possible to physically defeat Loki, as he is quite invulnerable, but not invincible. If his body sustains significant damage, it will take much longer to repair itself.
Cold Manipulation: Due to his Frost Giant lineage, Loki is able to manipulate cold, and can endure cold attacks with no harm done to himself. He is able to generate cold through himself and freeze objects in place. However, when it is cold enough, Loki involuntarily changes to his Frost Giant appearance - tough and wrinkled blue skin, and red eyes.
Sorcery: Loki's skills include using magic to create mind tricks and illusions. The illusions can be cast to a number of people at once. Also, he has been able to hypnotize and communicate telepathically with others. He sometimes channels this skill through weapons such as his staff. Also, while he can influence the thoughts and actions of others, he cannot read minds, and he cannot directly control their actions.
Shapeshifting: He can alter his appearance in many ways, and has been known to take several different forms, including those of humanoids, animals, or inanimate objects. He can also change other forms from one to another. However, he does not usually gain the abilities of the being he has shifted into. Also, and most notably, this is the most difficult of Loki's abilities, as it takes much of his concentration and drains him quickly.
Combat: Trained and experienced in combat, Loki can hold his own in battle, often outmaneuvering bigger and more physically powerful beings than himself. However, Loki relies heavily on his agility and wiles, not on his physical strength. He could defeat a normal human with ease, but when fighting his own kind, he is usually outclassed in terms of muscle mass.
History:
Born to the Frost Giants Laufey and Farbauti, the baby Loki was much smaller than he should have been, the size of a normal Asgardian child. Laufey, then the king of his race, hid Loki away in shame. Not until Laufey was defeated by Odin, the ruler of all of Asgard, did the little baby's birth come to light. Odin found him tucked away in a fortress, and decided to bring him home and raise him alongside Odin's own son, Thor.
The two boys grew up as brothers, with both love and competition between them. Yet they had their own talents; where Thor was strong and athletic, Loki was intelligent and clever. Early on, Loki discovered a natural affinity for sorcery, and began to study the dark arts. For this, and for other misadventures during his youth, he became known as the "god of mischief."
He often felt bouts of jealousy toward the older Thor, not simply because Thor seemed destined to reign over Asgard, but mostly due to what he perceived as favoritism from Odin toward Thor. As a result, he constantly tried to outwit Thor, with mild pranks that grew in earnestness and severity over time. His punishment for these pranks was usually light, however.
Additionally, he was often teased by his and Thor's friends regarding his stature and regarding his pranks, especially those that failed. He found himself trying harder and harder to prove himself, to their friends, to Thor, to Asgard as a whole, but primarily to Odin. These attempts ended poorly for him, culminating in his imprisonment within a tree until someone would shed a tear for him. He got out of this by making a leaf hit Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, in the eye.
With his skills in sorcery and trickery growing, he was often exiled to other places, usually after scheming against Thor or the throne. Aside from being exiled, he also travels to other places, sometimes alongside Thor, As jealous as he can be of Thor, he does care about his brother, as he has shown on several occasions by acting as his "voice of reason," keeping him from rushing headfirst into unnecessary battles.
Beneath the frustration and anger at them, Loki loves his family, though he remains unaware of the true story of his birth. Yet a hatred is growing within him, gnawing at him, leading him to behave somewhat recklessly as he tries to reconcile these conflicting emotions.
Sample RP:
The walls of his childhood home rose up around him, stifling and comforting. Loki looked out and down upon Asgard, at the figures milling about outside, so small from so up high. They went along living their lives, something he had done for so long, but felt incapable of continuing now. Not with what he knew now.
It was as he had suspected since that ill-fated trip to Jotunheim. He was not born of Odin and Frigga, was not Asgardian. He was a creature to be feared, ridiculed, destroyed. How often had his brother cheered at the suggestion that he might battle some of them? And here Loki was, suddenly stripped of his identity, reduced to a creature his brother sought to kill for sport!
Involuntarily, he clenched his jaw. What would this mean for him now? Better yet, what did it mean regarding his past? Centuries had passed without him being aware of this knowledge - the knowledge of his own origins - and he had lived his life, utterly oblivious. Now what would he do? Continue to walk among the Asgardians as though nothing had changed?
In a sense, he supposed, nothing had changed. He had always been a Frost Giant. The change was in his awareness of the fact. Well, now the idea that he would ever belong here felt utterly ridiculous. Looking down at his hands, he recalled again the sight of them turning blue for the first time. He had been surprised. Horrified.
Yet there was a certain… power to be found in all this. He was unique, possessed an uncommon ability, for this realm at least. It had saved him in Jotunheim, and perhaps it would serve him again. Being able to withstand the most frigid of environments, to call that environment to him at his will, had to be of some use, somehow.
He shivered. He had never liked the cold. The thought was accompanied by a chuckle, and he turned away from the view below. He must not forget who he has been all this time. To start over, to rebuild himself, would take precious time, an asset he lacked. There was much to be done, much he had planned. None of those plans were contingent on the race he happened to be.
There would be time for self-reflection later if he willed it. Shoving the matter to the back of his mind, Loki strode across the room, toward its exit. He only had a vague idea of what he was doing now, but it was better than standing and wondering about who he was.
He would keep himself moving. The activity would save him.
